i dunno if i have posted in this thread yet, but il do it again. my dad has spent LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS........ AND LOTS of money in our hobby. butt he neat thing about him is that, he is a CNC programmer so he can make almsot anthing he wants. for eg. muffler tips, mufflers, spinners, wheel axeles, engine mounts, prop nuts, prop washers,. he can even un bend crankshafts, re tap an hole, and he will ALWAYS find a way to mount soemthing somwhere, batteris, a part in his machine, the plane in the car, the fuel tank in the plane, ETC ETC. and im so lucky that i have my dad in thisw hobby, if i didnt, it would be hell.

I had a 25% Goldberg yak that crashed . And now I'm working on my 30% Extra. I had $500 in the goldberg because it was used. Now I have $800 in that 30%. I have to earn EVERYTHING for my planes. I am the only pilot in my whole family. I just wash parents and family's cars, mow, work around the house ALOT, etc. etc. etc.

It's not how much somthing costs, it's how much you want it. My drive is trying to get into competition, and if I could make a future and career out of this, I would. Becoming pro is reachable if you put your mind to it. Nothing like doing what you love the most, and geting your living out of it.

Well guys I started this hobby at 13 from a christmas gift. I new this is what I wanted to do with every penny I got. so I had the same task. where does a 13 year old find the money to go buy a new plane. Well this is what I did. I started mowing lawns with a little old push mower that ran like crap. 15 dollars a pop and mowed every one every time I could just to rake up as much possible. Then I found a guy that had some old stuff I could get for very little money. sooner or later I had more lawns to mow and found a guy that had a 5 acre lawn he would let me mow for two year in trade for a cheap old truck I could take to mow when I turned 16. That let me go to the real-estate companies with letters of referance from the people I had been mowing for already. by this time I had like 18 yards to mow every two weeks at 25 dollars a pop. now I had the money to go buy new stuff, And flew every day that I did not have homework or yard work to do. sooner or later I had went from wondering how to get 150 dollars to get a little plane to how I could line up 9 yards in one day over the weekend and the weekend after next so I could go buy the 500 dollar plane. of course the over head of the mowing had to come out but that was t=not much seeing how the yards were so close.

Point to the story is it is not how you get the money, it is how bad you want it. If you are willing to work your a$$ off then well even at 13 you can go out and find away. Now I am 26 and still doing the same thing just with a bit bigger plane and a different job. The 35% I have took me almost a year to get all the stuff together. servo here and a servo there kinda thing. as far as going pro. well that kinda thing I think is almost a fairy tale. Yes there are some guys out there that travel the world doing this and you see them at every event you go to but I promise. They have jobs too. This hobby is the best thing in the world for someone your age to get in too but as far as going pro, it is not your getting paid to fly; its you finally good enough for someone else to help you out buy giving you stuff to show off for them. If you can get good enough for the hobby to pay for itself then your the pro that you dream of. I have had lots of people help me out last year and so far this year as well. I went to a bunch of fly-ins and shows all over the country and I love every minute of it. If you just set your sights on getting there, then before you know it your sights have moved on to the next step up. hang in there man time flys and it will be no time flat when you have a 50cc and dream of a 150cc.
I am sure there are a few out there that you can say are professional rc pilots, but is not going to the field and getting a paycheck in the mail kinda thing I'm sure.
keep us posted on your progress.
