Just opened up a new aviation models 33% yak 54. All i have to say is holy crap this thing is light. The power for is a zdz super 80 on a canister muffler system. My dad and i are going to use this plane in IMAC and some 3d stuff. My dad and I will post some pics as soon as possible.

I've got the same setup minus the cannister. Power is amazing. To be honest.....I would really like to see your cannister install. I couldn't wedge one in there without fabbing up my own header. Let me know, Neo |

I'll try to keep getting pics in as we build it. Though we have to finish up the rest of the projects in front of it first. But I'll definately get some pics of the canister installation for you.

Saw one of these fly with a 3W 80xi still breaking in and with a 24X10 prop and bloody rich and it would still pull out of a hover. His was 24 pounds, dry. It is no feather at that weight, but it is still a floater and still responds crisply and has no bad habits - probaly a perfect weight compromise between IMAC, where you don't want to get blown all around if you're too light, and 3D, where too much weight makes everything harder.

Well right now we've got an Extreme Flight extra that we need to finish and my dad wants to finish a couple of other models first so this plane may not get out and meet the sky until the end of the season. |

I'm the Dad! This was my son's birthday present. I told him he was getting a Yak, he thought I was talking about a foamie. LOL. Wow, what a kit! We were thinking about the QQ Yak, but a friend of mine that had assembled one for someone else was not all that impressed, and when he saw the Aviation Models Yak kit at the Joe Nall flyin, he ended up buying the 35% for himself. He showed me his kit and I was sold. I've heard the performance of the 33% with the Super 80 is awesome. I thought about the pitts style muffler for it, but heard the cannister setup has more performance. At first glance, it seemed the cannister was not going to fit, but I think with a 2" header extension I will be able to place the cannister completely behind the landing gear and it should all fit in the existing tunnel. I will have to cut out the covering and maybe one stringer behind the gear mount, so the exit tube from the cannister will come out behind the gear. I thought the header was going to have a flex section in it (at least that is the way it was advertised on TroyBuilt's website) but it is solid. From some rough measurements, it appears it will be close to lining up correctly, but I won't know for sure until I get things mounted. All I need to figure out is where I can get some 30mm tube for the extension. Does anyone have some they trimmed off of a header? Bob R.

I can tell you this....my 33% AM Yak with the SUper 8 has way more than enough power with the standard pitts muffler. Vertical is unreal. It feels like a funfly it has that much power. I can't wait till the engine gets broken in a bit more so that I can really start tweakin the needles. Neo |

| hehehehe Happy Birth Day Matt!!!!!! I've enjoyed every minute of talking behind your back with your Dad about your YAK. Everyone at the field knew weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks ago!! We all know you'll do an awesome job flying it. For those of you who dont know Matt, he's only 11 years old, been flying R/C for about one year, and already competing in IMAC. He recently flew in the Matt Chapman Youth Masters and did very well. Some day he hopes to build his own models!! LOL ( I had to say that JS Jr> !!!! ) Matt has a great future in R/C ahead of him. Oh yea Matt,,, you might wanna check your profile info. According to your age, your Dad was 3 when you where born!!!!!! LOL |
