I was thinking the same thing. If you get a chance to attend an academy, for goodness sake.... go there! Not to mention if you want to be an engineer with mad skills and respect, the academy has a top 10 engineering program in the nation. Please, please take advantage of that opportunity if you can. It is VERY difficult to enter that program, and harder to stay in it. Hey... I thought OSU was an ag school....ha. Go Sooners! |

It was highly suggested to my to go to Embry, but I'm going USAF. I might go to the Acadamy, but time will tell. The military was highly suggested to my(especially the USAF) because of all the on the job training and experience that you will gain. Hope this helps!. All the best to ya! 50% Last edited by 50%plane; 10-03-2006 at 07:39 AM. |

The AF Academy has a great program, but realize its not college. Its 4 years of being dumped on, and its not for everyone FYI. If you go to the Academy they pretty much expect you to be a pilot, even if you get an engineering degree. If you dont want to fly, you have to go talk to the 1 star General who runs the zoo and try to explain to him why you dont want to fly. Not trying to discourage anyone from going to the zoo, just need to do your homework about it. If you go there, its free, but in reality, its not.

I visited AF and I remember I was told that something like 40% of the students didnt do pilot training at all. Also, they only have a bunch of gliders and I wouldnt think that you would do too much flight training while you are there. Also, I heard the Air Force just tells each congressman who they want and then the congressmen nominates who the airforce wants, if the airforce wants you then you will be nominated no problem. But I am shure there are other ways to be nominated. Its not as hard as one could imagine it but then again it is not easy. But then again I am no expert on the college... |

Congressman and Senators make the nominations, not the Academy. The pilot training I am talking to is after you graduate. The majority of the graduates go to pilot training afterwards. Like I was saying, the Academy is a good deal, but it has its tradeoffs as well. There are other ways to be an engineer in the AF besides going to the Academy. You could go to MIT and get a degree from there, and then go to the AF as an officer and an engineer. ROTC and OTS are other viable options, and you can choose the college you want to. Most engineer students in ROTC programs get 100% scholarships, plus a stipend each month as well, plus most get an opportunity to get their master's degree right after your bachelors, on the Air Force's dime at either the Air Force Institute of Technology, or a state/private school.

listen to this man... I joined the Army enlisted in the Infantry, then went through OCS to get commissioned. Not the best way to go. I took the hard way. Academy, ROTC, and if neither of those work... OTS/OCS. Crazy, but now I am in the Air Guard and LOVE it. Miss the Army, but the AF was the correct choice. |

I think the days of violations may be over, at least the wanton violations where the school looked the other way, but I will say for sure they are a sports school. I hired two mechanical engineering technology grads from OSU and have not regretted it once. Not as hard core as the mech eng program, but they are still some sharp cats and great with the practical parts too. I dig OSU, unless they are playing OU. That cannot be said for most OSU people who would rather OU lose at any cost to any team. Too bad so sad. Go Sooners, Go Pokes. Last edited by VIPER69; 10-04-2006 at 12:32 AM. |

To be honest I grew up in California but was a big OU fan. By grandfather was from Oklahoma. Through a long set of events I ended up at OSU. I really don't harbor bad feelings toward OU but wanted to bust your stones a little about the ag school comment. Dan |
