Age:
16 - First job repairing and building computers - later networking
17 - Contractor for PC Professor installing cable modems
18 - Started tech support for web hosting company
19 - Managing for same web hosting company
20- Army HOOAH!
24 - Into construction as I couldnt find anything else after the Army
25 - General Contractor (of course on and off work in construction in the past)

Of course the best job you can have as a young kid; playing drums in a punk rock band. Forget the money who can turn down lots of good looking chicks throwing themselves at you. I think we made like $75-200 bucks a show starting back in 97-98 ish. For that matter I need to start a band again much for the same reason.

The coolest job I had as a kid for a brief moment was working in a transmission shop that made custom trannys for all sorts of fast cars. The worse jobs I ever had were Private in the Army and construction laborer; really about equal.

Dont blow your money on women (or a woman). If I hadn't I would have been able to start up my company sooner than I did.

Ahhh.... jobs I did when I was younger. Luckily, there's was a lot to do where I grew up.

Stuff I did from 15yrs old to around 22yrs old while still in school:

1. Grocery store -- everyones gotta try that. It really aint that bad, just not much dough in it. My first part time job at 15 yrs old.

2. Bus boy / server at a restaurant. Stuck working every weekend night, but you can some good cash. I could easily make $50-75 night, but it's hard work and you don't usually get home until 11 or 12pm.

3. Valet parking at a restaurant or country club -- * LOVED * that job. Flexible hours (some late nights though). I did this for a little over 4 years while doing other things during the day. I was rolling in the loot during those days since I still lived at home. During "season" (here in S. Florida) it wasn't uncommon at all to walk away with $200/night all cash. Always some hot girls around and gee look, I just happen to have these Mercedes-Benz keys laying around... [ahem].

4. Golf course caddy -- Hot, sweaty in the sun work... very few girls around. Pretty decent money and never have to work nights. Great summer time job.

No matter what you do a bit of advice though. Looking back now, I would have worked a whole lot less throughout those years. I missed out on a bunch of hanging out with the boys and chasing the girls because I was "working". Yeah, you'll have some toys, but I promise you, 5 years later you'll (likely) have nothing to show for it, but know you missed out on a good chunk care free youth.

It's good to float some of your own spending money and not count on the parents so much, but try to balance it out. That 35% plane might not mean so much compared to the memories you lost out on because you were serving pasta to some old farts.

Planes come and go... moments in time slip away forever.

sl1200mk made a good point.

Get a job doing something that interests you. You will have to be very persistent and prolly won't make very much but it would be enjoyable. For example if full scale airplanes interest you, pester the heck out of some companies at the airport. If engineering interests you keep talking to the company till they give you a job.

Be carefully to do it within reason though. Show up in the morning before anyone else and ask for a job. They will probably say no but if you show up every morning before anyone else and politely ask they will give you a job based on your persistence. Try to do it for fun first and money second. Trust me, when you grow up it will be the other way around unless you are very, very lucky.
Just an idea

Let me tell you this. I install floors. Tile, Carpet, Wood.. ECT. Find a good installer around your town One that is independent and not a big store and tell him you will help him so you can learn the trade. Look around at all times and pick up his trash and get the tools he asks you for and do your best. He will pay you good and you will learn how to do a very high paid skill. Just have to find someone good..

LATER
Good luck..

Mow lawns, Work at a Hotel, A restaurant. Working as a busboy or cook is good work plus it is better to impress a girl with cooking skils than with cash, a woman appreciates a man who can cook. There is also constructions site clean up. Talk to a builder in your area and see if you can get a gig cleaning a house after it is built ( serious money can be made) What ever you do, just do your best and try hard. Ask questions if you don't understand something.
That is all for now.

If anyone wants some labor work in construction in the south FL area let me know. It would be a good part time gig.

When I was 16 I worked as a projectionist in a local theater. Not much money, late nights, also had to work pushing popcorn to people. With the new systems in theaters about all the projectionist has to do is thread the projector, flip a switch to start it up. Once a week build the movies and tear them back down into the individual reels.

Some of the perks. Get to see all the new shows for free. Some of the chain theaters let employees go to any of the theaters in the chain for free. (Cheep dates) You get to see all the good looking chicks coming through when you are working the concession stand.

My first side job was making 8kb expansion EEPROM modules for Commodore 64 computers when I was 13. Back then, I though that was the coolest thing ever

At 15, I took an internship at a compter graphics company. Got to play with $$$$$$ worth of equipment for free and made some contacts. 6 months later, I started freelancing in computer animation. Soon, I was making more money than I ever imagined.

Try to find something in the field that interests you and use it as a learning opportunity.
