| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | Hello and welcome to Flying Giants! If you haven't flown yet you may want to find yourself a flying field with an instructor. It will save you a lot of money in lost planes and they can explain all of the finer points. If you haven't bought a plane yet you might want to consider the Nexstar package. Although the H9 trainer has gotten good reviews the Nexstar comes with its own simulator and replacement guarantee. That helped me a lot. Anyway, jump on one of the newbie forums and ask away. I'm sure the guys in there will be happy to help you out.

| Major League Dead Beat ![]() | Great advise Al. I agree with everything you said, Excel stay away from the p-51, I trained a guy on that and it flew very poorly.

| A.V. 8 OR ![]() | I've been training for a couple months now. I considered the P-51 Mustang PTS too but received a lot of negative feedback. I'm sure you feel the same in that you wanted a cool looking plane right off the bat. Typical trainers leave a lot to be desired in terms of appearance. My instructor recommended a Hangar-9 Alpha or Arrow. I purchased the Alpha 40 (also comes in a 60) and am very happy. The Revolution engine is great. Once acclimated, I say go for the cooler looking planes. Good luck! Oh, almost forgot...mine also came with a simulator. |

I have been training my son on the h9 mustang pts, and he loves it. I have not seen any thing wrong with this bird. It flys real good for us, and the engine has ran great. My son is interested in warbirds and this is why we choose it. The sim that comes with it is not that good but will give you an good starting point. But the best way of course is to have someone help you with a buddy box! Good luck on what plane you decide on, but I do recommend a good simulator I use FS ONE. Chris

| Low and Slow Baby!! ![]() | The pts stang is a tough and fun plane I have had one for quite some time and it has been through it all. With all of the trainer gear installed it is a very gentle and slow flying plane. But it still isn't the best trainer it doesn't have the self righting characteristics of a good trainer and it won't land itself like a good well trimmed trainer. I would recommend it for a second plane or a plane to get use to war birds. When you take the trainer equipment off it will fly just like its bigger brothers (tip stall etc). Whatever you do have fun and get an instructor or if you have any friends that can help you out. Just make sure you have help when starting out. |
