I have a bran new G62 I got from a friend for doing some work. What plane would you guys recommend to for a 1st time gas/big plane? I want to be able to hover with power left to spare. I am currently flying a World models Cap with an OS 1.60. I love the new Hanger 9 Carden Cap 54, would that work? Thanks, Guy |

Guy, I think the Hanger 9 Carden Yak 54 would be a great plane. I think that you should also look into the Extreme Flight Yak 54 and the Extreme Flight Extra 300. All of these planes should handle the extra wight of the G-62 just fine. Does your G-62 have the electronic ignition? If not it would be a great help for you to swap it over to electronic ignition. I think that there a few companies out there that sell these coversions. You can even lighten up that 62 with the electronic igniton. Clarke |

The 3D hobby Shop Extra by Scott Stoops looks like a winner also at 1475 wing area. http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=2281

Defiantly dump the spring start set up and get a Jump Start from C & H, www.ch-ignitions.com part number 102 for $59.95. That eliminates the timing advance so starting is easy with no kick back. Scott

I picked up the G62 today. I was wrong it does not have the electronic ingition. Is there a DIY kit out there to convert it or do I have to spend the 150.00 from RCigntions? PS The YAK 54 should be here next week! |

There are a couple of DIY kits out there.. I upgraded mine, its very easy. I think it was C.H. Ignitions, but do a search for G62 electronic ignitions and a couple of choices should surface. its about a30 minute upgrade, and works like a champ. The engine I bought was about 4 years old according to the previous owner. It turned about 7000 RPM on a 22x12 prop. The RPM's didn't change much if any moving to the electronic system, but the throttle response was noticably better, due to the electronic timing advance in the new ignition. The kits come with a hall sensor, new flywheel with magnet installed, ignition, installation bracket, and a large cardboard dial to put on the prop shaft to help set the initial timing. Very easy, and very worth it in my opinion. When I did the upgrade, I left the spring start attached... it made starting the motor a REAL breeze. It does add a few ounces out on the nose. The cavity where the spring start is mounted also makes a good place to mount the ignition module, but I just mounted mine to the motor box. |

If you don't mind spending the $150, go with rcignitions conversion. Ralph will take over a pound off of the engine and has a life time warranty on the ignition.
