Where to begin.......been flying a Pulse XT and Extra 260 40 size for a while, decided I need to have a 50cc Extra 260 Aeroworks in my garage in hopes I'll someday have the courage to fly it. Purchased the ARF kit from them, now I have a list of questions a mile long regarding Radio to buy, ignition, batteries, powerbox?, servos, etc. etc. I currently have a DX7 but I'll need an 8 channel for this application correct? What do I buy to allow for future growth while not going overboard. I have no plans to compete or be anything above a Sunday flyer. I'd also like to incorporate smoke as the kit comes with the separte smoke tank, what pump (I've read you can use a windshield washer pump from the auto parts store?). I'll save that for a different post. As I said, I have a million questions that probably need to be on 38 different sections for the forum, so please forgive me. Let's start with Does anyone have suggestions on a good setup for this plane? I plan on using a 3w-55-i-us motor with the pitts style muffler. That's as far as I've made it. Ignition, batteries, power box vs. receiver, prop, 2985 servos ok, any servos better? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I wouldn't bother with a powerbox for this airplane. I would use a Hitec 5955 on rudder for sure as it can go into a bigger plane as you fly bigger planes. probably use 5625's everywhere else. This will yield a totally digital solution. Batteries... I have recently switched to A123 batteries. I am really impressed with them. I would use 1 2300 on RX, 1 1100 on ignition. The best advise I can give you is to NOT put this off!!! build the plane and fly it, I guarantee you will love it!!! Bigger flys easier and better. My last piece of advice is to have FUN!!! That is what it's all about anyway right!! Good luck, MR G |

You don't need an 8 channel radio. The DX7 is fine. If you can, run 5955's all around. This would make the transition to a larger plane easier. I would run a single 4200ma lion pack. And a 2600ma pack for the ignition. Fromeco or smartfly regulators for the batteries also. A smoke tank is a bit to much on a 50cc size plane, but if you want, you can get the sulivan skywriter or TME smoke pump. Good Luck! |

Probably going to reiterate what the other two said. The Dx-7 is enough to take you where you want to go. I'm using it on my 35% 260 and have no troubles. I'll also second the motion on the A123 batteries because thats what I'm using but a single 4600mah li-ion is plenty for a 50cc as well. I've been using jr servos but I'm switching to the 5955's from hitec because of the better gear train. As for the power box and smoke, I'd say both add too much weight. Smoke, I think you'll find is always way cooler on someone else's plane (it makes more of a mess than glow fuel I think). You're definately in the right place for any questions you might have...good luck and have fun!!

You guys are getting me excited......Thanks for the info. What receiver should I use - any ignition better than another - specific power regulator to buy if i'm going to go with the single vs. dual battery options? |

I went with AR9100 with dual 2700 NiMh. Will it matter that I charge them separately and if so is there a way to charge both at the same time? Last two items to get me going..... Igntion and Prop recommendation for the 3W-55i |
