Some pics of the cross bracing.

I put a strip of .014 CF on the top of each balsa stringer. I have had trouble keeping the monokote tight in this area and they are very easy to break if you are not careful.

Last pic is the what I use for a glue tip.

All of the foam surfaces will receive this special treatment. Of course they all will have carbon fiber reinenforcement in certain locations. Jeremy (Worm) is the funny looking guy holding up the rudder to his Aerotech 300. He just got his kit and we are going to build them both at the same time. We are going to post pics of the mods to both planes here. We are keeping track of weight and will post results as we go.

You guys can see the difference of diamonds. The one in the front used 3 inch diamonds and Jonas used 2 inch with a few extra supports. Weight difference between the two was not much different. On the Aerotech rudder a little more than an ounce was saved. That is once ounce I would have had.. by the end they will all add up.

These pics show the templates used and the end result. Jeremy cored out the verticle stab on his and I will do the same on mine. Should result in a little more than 1oz weight savings. With the stabs and wings we are expecting about 1/2 to 1lb in weight savings. The most important being in the wingtips.

Hey Joe,

Yes, we used a template on both sides. For the templates we used poster board that looked like graphing paper. It had 1/2" squares on one side and made it very easy to lay out the design. For cutting I have and old wire foam cutter that uses D cell batteries. It works ok but we had to juice it up from 3 cells to 6 cells to cut the thicker foam. We have the foam knife on order from acp-composites and will finish the other surfaces with this once it gets here.

Where are you getting your syringes? Horizon had them at one time but not any longer.

When you start your build thread be sure to show us how to do it with a coffe can. Anyway, you didn't know what a cored wing was till this summer.

I work in the hospital and pretty much have unlimited access to them. I also use the same syringe and tip for gluing in Robart hinges with probond. When you are done gluing just squeeze a small amount of glue out of the tip and let it dry. Next time you are ready to glue pull the glue off the end and it is ready to go.
