I like it alot too.... Its WAY cool looking. Unfortunatly it's not going to save any weight... I was hoping to shave a few oz. off, but not quite. This one was a test layup by hand, so I was way heavy on the epoxy. It weights 5.1 oz and the foam/balsa weighs 7 oz. But I still have to cut a 1/2" foam "internal" to get the stiffness up on the carbon version. That foam weighs 2 oz.... But it sure looks sweet! The whole idea was to open up the turtle deck for some airbrush action.... I'll be mixing a scale scheme up with some fantasy rips and such. The final one will get V. Bagged, and I might save an oz of epoxy over the hand layup... Well see. |

So now back to the fuse structure. I'm adding my gussets to all the joints... EAch is cut with a pair of lexan scissors, sanded, and clamped in place with white glue for the sticky.

I should have matchhole drilled the gear to the motor box on the drill press, but I forgot before I glued up the formers.... So I marked the holes on the plate and used a drill jig to get them vertical. |

ljj, your carbon gussets are cool but do you have any concerns that white glue will (not) bond the already cured epoxy/carbon parts to wood ? keep up the good work ! |
