Awesome, thanks Dave. I'll be doing my own when Walt's done building it. I've got a paint booth at work and air guns at my disposal...

Has anyone used both the PPG & Chromabase paints?
I'm wondering which one is better.
I use the ChromaBase base coat/clear coat since the closest auto paint store carries it.
It works just fine but I'm wondering if anybody has compared the two.

ejb,
i'm not a professional painter but have used both and would say they are both excellent..BUT i always use this clear because i paint in the same space as i build. it's really awesome stuff, in the correct weather it dreis to the touch in 5 minutes which really helps w/ dust.

PPG and DuPont are both exellent paints and both work exactly the same. I use PPG because thats what my paint shop carries.

Thanks guys.
Now since I'm a cheapskate is there any difference in price or are they about the same?

Dave,
Great article. Before I painted my first car, I went to the local automotive paint dealer and bought Duponts automotive refinishing handbook. It has the correct proceedure to apply all of their paints. It tells you which paints go with which and how to apply them. It has all the do's and don'ts, and at the cost of some of these supplies, you don't want to make any mistakes. One of the most important things is safety. Some of these paints have isocianates in them and a proper resperator is a must. Hope this helps.

Dude, Thats profound! Oh and by the way when I get to Toledo we need to talk about that set of wheel pants. $28.00 + interest + stress + humiliation for not having any on my plane + shipping to Wyoming + my drive to Toledo to collect + trash pick for the box they came in + the aggravation I have had to live with when my wife found out I gave you my pants! So the way I have it figured you owe me around $28,752.23. Yep that sounds about right.
See ya at Toledo Jeff.

Can you give a brief discussion on buffing? What products do you use?

Dave, thanks for the paint thread! I have been using Imron and Jet Glow forever since I use them in my full scale applications. They look great but are a major pain! Reading this has convinced me to move on (at least with the models). I have to paint and wait over a week before taping for the next color or the fineline eats into the paint a little. Your painting three colors in a day, crud!
Also, the BVM pin hole filler---home run! I have been using feather fill which gets all sanded off, 2 applications, 2 days apart minimum, 5 hours of sanding each time...
Your stuff always looks great, thanks again!
Will B.
