QQ Yak 102" hinges

The Gen 1 and Gen 2 Yak 102" probably had the same stock hinges that came with my Gen 3. I'm not sure how these hinges would hold up for hard 3D? Do they loosen up and do the pins get bent? I have some Klett 1/4 scale hinges (left in pic) but they seem to be slightly smaller and thinner than the stock hinge, but the stock hinge has more freeplay. Is there a better hinge available? I'm also thinking of doubling up at the roots and tips. Thanks guys

I wouldn't really use those in something bigger than 50cc for some soft 3d. Other than that I might use some straight pivot hinges from Dubro.

Everyone has their opinion and mine is that Quique and Wayne wouldn't release a plane with hinges that haven't been proven to hold up. They do have just a little play but nothing to worry about. Pine hinges are very good but I don't see the need for them. plus you will have to re-drill everything when they have already done a great job of cutting hinge slots for you. Make sure you seal your surfaces good also. There is no need to double up either. Build as per the instructions and you will be rewarded with one of the best flying planes in it's class. Again just my opinion.

We used the stock hinges in Seth's 102" QQ YAK Gen I and he has harshly 3D'd the heck out of the plane with no problems. We did however double up on the root and tips and added an extra to the rudder using the hinges QQ supplied. He has around 100 flights on the plane now with no problems.(And this is even the Gen I with the real soft landing gear!) And, like MXCOP said, you will have the best IMAC / 3D capable ARF in the industry. We also set the CG as per QQ reccomendations and it is dead on!

I have the Gen II qq 102 and I broke the hinges on the rudder twice. First time they broke beginning at the lowest hinge and worked their way up. The plastic broke at hinge point but the metal showed no fatigue. The second time was the same. I finally changed to large robarts and haven't had any problems yet. One reason why I believe I have had problems is because I fly really hard. I like to do full speed rolls one direction and then immediately switch then go into a rolling loop, so maybe this is the reason, or maybe it is the knife edge loops.

Mike, thanks for the heads up. Your elevator and aileron hinges were fine? Did you install any additional hinges there? I would probably install a mix of the stock and robarts for rudder.
