Default Quicker's 85" Extra 260 profile build

Just as the name says, this is my prototype build of the 85" Extra 260 that I drew up a while ago. I finally got the parts in (fantastic cutting Sotos!!!). I have 2 other prototype short kits going out to a couple of guys to help me find the bugs.

With all the new inexpensive 50cc class motors, I'm figuring out it's not that much more expensive (if at all) to do this size bird as to the 65"-70" glow planes. I'm going to run a Venom 45 on this plane.

First up, the rudder and VStab. The ribs, LE and TE parts are cut from 1/8th balsa. They are sheeted with 1/16th. I added a 1"sq hardwood block for the control horn mount.

FYI: The ruler in the pics is an 18" ruler so you get an idea of the size.

I built these parts last night and started a thread on the ProBro site. Figured I'd do one here too, since it's a pretty good sized bird.

The HStab and Elevator build very much like the rudder, and this all builds like most of my wings. Only diff is we are sheeting them on this big of a bird. I did add the 2 sleeves for the fiberglass rods. The HStab used 2 1/4" fiberglass tubes. I'm using arrow shafts on this one, but I spec'd the holes for a nice fiberglass tube/sleeve combo from kitebuilder.com.

Here's a pic of the outlines so you can get a visual of what we're doing here.

The fuse has 1/4" hardwood dowels in it and is made from 2" thick foam. You can upgrade to fiberglass or CF rods if you want, but honestly they are not needed. When I made the Skeeter 80 fuse I used hardwood dowels and that fuse was so strong I could stand on it. No way was that breaking. CF rods may be sexy, but it's waisted money in a project like this.

Thanks ChrisR!

OK, got one of the wings done, so that leaves one wing and 2 ailerons to meet my goal. My wife and kids are at her parents until Thursday

The main spar and trailing edge are in 2 pieces that must be glued together. The spar is capped with 1/4" sq hardwood sticks. The secondary spar sticks are also 1/4" sq hardwood.

Still gotta add the tube for the servo lead and cut a hatch to access the wing bolt, but other than that she's ready to cover.

The wings are held in place with a single 1/4" bolt inside the wing. The hatches will use a quick-release latch and will be on top for easy access. Tighten the bolt up, put in the safety pin in the bolt and close the hatch.

The tri-stock is 1" tri-stock, so you have to plane it down to fit the taper of the wing. I thought of a lot of different options for the bevel for the hinge point, but went back to this as the simplest method. It's quick, easy and super solid.

It's been a while since I was in here. I had no idea you were doing this. Great work man. Any updates on the build?
