What would be the recommended Hitec alternative to the JR 8411? I like your setup otherwise...

DA-85
26A Vess
Carbon spinner 4"
Carbon fiber landing gear and wing tube
1-5955 on each inboard aileron hole
1-8411 on each elevator half
1-5955 on push pull for the rudder
1-605 throttle
1-531 on the choke
1-32 oz tank which i may swap out to a 24 oz since I needed some items to start working on my 46% Ultimate I placed the order for a tank to (24 oz and 40 oz)
4" skylites wheels
1-carbon fiber tail gear with a 1.5" tail wheel
JTEC muffler about 10 oz

I added a mod to the wings so that I can screw them on from the inside since I am running the non steel wing tube.

What balance method did you use to balance your plane?
How does it fly inverted?

My kit is 21.5 lbs the way u see it in the pics less the fuel weight. I did not do any mods to make it lighter I figured I would come in around 23-24 lbs since most twin owners seem to be in the 25-26 lbs range. I will also be switching out to a 27 Vess this year to see how I like it as this baby is loud when u get down on the prop at over 1/2 throttle. I am getting an easy 6900-7k after landing on this prop right now. I think my DA manaul says keep the motor at least getting 62 or 63K if I remember correctly. I have also did 1-2 full throttle to ensure it did not have any flutter issues and its still here today after those passes. I do not plan to do that anymore but now I can safely tell other flyers once servo is all that is neeed. As you can see from the pics my balance is solid as a rock at 7" it stays there like its kewl.
My receiver battery 4400 (fromeco) is located in the 1st pic using those 2 tie straps. The ignition battery is located on the side of the motor box 2200 fromeco deal there, with the reg on the other side of the box. You can see from the 1st pic were my reciever and regulator for the servos is located. There is a top cover mounted on top of the motor box area were the choke servo is located.
talk soon gc
Turns out my friend helped me balance the plane wrong!!!!! I moved the nobs 4500's back under the pilot. I now am looking for lighter batterys and wondering which ones to use. The plane flew totally different when we moved the batterys. I now see lighter is much better. What do you think about 123's or should I use the fromco's? Thanks for the help.

I have not made the conversion to 123 as I have most of the birds on Fromeco. By the time I convert a new battery will most likely be out.....i am sure someone with more scoop will chime in here soon.

The 8411 are 155 oz on a 4.8 volt system. Most of the servos today quickly reach that amount of power and people jump right on jr 86xx, or 8711 which both beat the 8411. The hitec line up with T/G is the way to go if you don't have a hand full of strong servos in the stash to use. I hope to try out some of the 7955 next year as I will put some servos off something to put the 8411 on some of the parked hanger queens which right now I have my eyes on a parked DP Extra in my hanger.

Rob what CG did you settle in on?

A friend of mine has the same plane and his flew much better than mine. We balanced it at the field with the wing tip method. The white stripe on the wings is suppose to be the balance point. By your pictures that looks to be right.

Robteecoker when you say it flew better what things come to mine in how much better if flew? I can tell u by using the CG machine and doing some guessing or were that line would come to the end wings I am using a balance of 7" at the root of the wings vise using the tips as mentioned in the manaul. At 7" i fall ever so slightly inverted at 1/2 throttle (lineer throttle mix). I feel there is still a 1/2 or so more I could go back AFT if needed.

My old setup was changed out 2 weeks ago I pulled my 8411 off of the elevators and pulled the 5955 off of the ailerons. I put the 5955 on the elevators and installed some of those 7955 on the ailerons. The rudder is still 5955 on push pull (single). I still am only running the inboard aileron servo. This set-up is working great DA-85 on a 26B Vess in the mid 6k range!

I realy enjoyed mine this summer with the BME 102 in it. A very fun 3D plane. I believe the DA 85 has a bit more power than the older BME 102's, but they are about the same weight. I still have increadible pull out of a hover with the BME. I didn't add any extra weight on mine and it balanced out good. I'm running all Li-Ion batteries and Fromeco regs. I also have a smoke system installed up front. 5955's on the elevators, 7955 on the rudder, and 5645's X 2 on each aileron.

Steve,

I feel ya I had the 100 converted over a summer or 2 ago. I had Keith use my jugs/pistons on a 115 bottom end. If I recall correctly I can get about 7k on a 26 x 10 mejzlik cold......

Krayzc my cap flew lighter when we moved the weight to the middle of the plane. It was very nose heavy, you always were leaning on the elevator. when we moved the weight it seemed to float, you could slow it down and float it in. Before you had to fly it fast and if felt very heavy, if that makes any sence.

I have had one of these Caps for many years with a ZDZ- 80 twin. Recently i reduced the weight of the plane by using one A123 2 cell pack for the ignition and radio together, and made twin beer can in fuselage mufflers. Now the plane weighs 23 pounds even. This is my all time favorite plane of this size. It hucks like a 40% Cap. Many at the field have commented how they have never seen anything this small float like this one without snapping. Having a single battery to fast charge in 15 minutes is the utmost of simplicity. I intend to convert all of my planes to single A123 onboard packs.
