Maybe some sort of a plywood box with the stab tube and mounting nuts that could be laminated to the existing area.

Cool, I would also consider laying a real light layer of glass over the top of the box, and down on both sides.

I would first find someone that can accurately cut a phenolic hole in the stab and keep that person at bay for a bit. Then using 3M77 tack the 2 stabs together in the center and set the stab in the saddle cut in the fuse. Square it up and mark the underside with a marker to determine the fuse angle. After this break the stab half's back apart and set each one in the top side shuck. Band saw the angle marked to 90 Degrees. With light ply make 2 socket supports to vertically go down the inside of the fuse sides and cover the top servo opening. This support would extend above the top fuse deck former shown on the picture. The top ply fuse deck former will have to be knotched to allow this to extend vertically above this former. The support would have a hole in each side to allow the stab tube fuse phenolic to cross the fuse and be supported by these 2 verticle uprights. Then I would do something similar to the previous suggestion by cutting out the airfoiled area and boxing this in with a flat top for your fairing fillet. I'm very familiar with your project. Doing another one I would modify the fuse sides before assembly to achieve the modification. This will allow the servo's for the elevators to be stab mounted and the servo opening in the fuse can be covered and filled it with a filler piece...Walt

Hey Walt,

Was searching for information on the Lanier 40% 540 and came upon your post......

Tower hobbies is currently selling this kit for $399.......that's right $399 (plus about $55 shipping) and I was thinking of getting one just because it's a down and dirty way to get into 40% "relatively" cheaply.....

1) Would you recommend this kit?

2) What changes would you make during the building process?

3) Would you see any problems "hollowing out" the foam wings (using a hot-wire on a soldering iron to cut out sections)?

4) What engine are you using?

5) What servos are you using?

Any and all input here would sure be appreciated.

Bill

just got one ordered myself. I have built TF warbirds but nothing like this. I found out on another forum that graphtec makes carbon gear for this Edge!! I was told the cowl and pants that are included are of good quality fiberglass.

Talking Re: Lanier rc 40% edge 540

Well I finally gave in and put my order in for the 40% 540.....I went through my local Hobbytown USA and was able to get the plane for $399 WITHOUT ANY SHIPPING CHARGES........couldn't ask for a better deal than that.

Now it's a matter of sneaking the boxes in the house and setting up to build.
