My build on this plane was pretty much stock. I did create new baffle for the cowl. I have been practicing laying up carbon fiber cloth and think I am actually getting pretty decent with it. So here is the end result. Steps for the carbon fiber sheet... 1. One peice of glass about 2' by 1.5 feet. 2. Use Maguires #8 mold release carnuba wax and wax the entire surface 3 to 4 times and buff 3. I brushed a coat of west epoxy on the glass and let it set for 2 hours (I think this lets all the air bubbles escape and the glue gets a little tacky at this point. 4. I layed the first layer .010 thick and coated it with west epoxy 5. I layed the 3rd and 4th layers and again brushed on west epoxy between layers 6. Let it dry...and dry....and dry...I used slow epoxy which I let cure over night... 7. Cut the circle and trim to fit 8. I used aeropoxy to glue it in place. I also used a bead of silicon glue between the cowl and carbon fiber...this gives some flex...the aeropoxy sandwiches the baffle between the glue and cowl...very sturdy... |

pepatrick - That looks pretty sharp! Great Job! Now take it to the next level and add some directional channeling around the header. Get that, and lets talk about a making $econd one!

I had to do some repair to the baffle/vane plate on mine. I noticed after only a couple flights the plastic had started to tear and failure was around the corner. Now, when I masked off the the alternating colors I used an Exacto to cut out the masking. In all fairness, I deduct that this light 'scoring' contributed to the 'condition', yet I have read elsewhere of this component being a problem; Flying Hawaiian for one having experienced a similar issue. ![]() Taking FH's advice & technique, I used a light weight glass cloth- tacked down with 3M spray adhesive and then coated with thinned 12 min. epoxy. I also painted the exposed cylinder head portion so all appears black when viewed from the front. So less than 25% of the head is painted. A more than fair compromise IMO. (Maybe pictures taken out doors would have been better. It looks champ! IMO) I also painted my spinner black for a more fashionable and coordinated look. Sweet eh? ![]() Ya gotta read the big brew-ha-ha this simple (?) painting modification idea started when I asked DA for their opinion and recommendation - if okay to paint. ![]() Grill paint on DA Head?

Hi All, i'm setup my first Extreme flight 88'' yak right now, and i have now to choose witch exhaust system to install in. I use a DA-50R. witch one is better in the EF 88'' YAK. KS canister ? or KS 1060 tunned pipe ? Is one more easy to install ? I have also to mention that i have no experience with tunned pipe, and it's just my second DA50 (first is with stock muffler). what are your feedback and comment about the choice ? I'm also interested into any tips/pictures for installation in the pipe tunnel. thanks for comment and help Michel |

Pictures of K&S canister install: https://www.whiteknuckleairlines.com...r=asc&start=45 My MTW install - sorry that is all I could find. I know there are more - somewhere! I painted all grill paint black. Looks better than photo IMO.

Hi guys! Nice thread, I was just wondering if anyone has an install thread for the cannister on this plane. The instructions call for cutting the stringer and some of the formers, I am just a little weary to start carving up a brand new plane. Cheers, HeavyK |

One day I will own a PC and get to enjoy the rips on the G-4! I'll hunt you down for your variant program! Post a pic if you can!? Heavy K - just study my picture in post #56. Those formers are expendable - but you certainly won't need to go as far back as I did with the tuned pipe. Chris did a good job overseeing the design of the tunnel dimensions and construction! ![]() Heck - I found a better color pic from the field!
