Default Dalton Aviation 42% Extra 300 Mark Leseberg Edition build

Well... it is on it's way... the man in the brown truck will be delivering the newest kit from Dalton Aviation, the 42% Extra 300 Mark Leseberg Edition.

This one is going to be my primary IMAC machine for 2008. Many small changes were made to the 300 airframe for Mark to compete in the 2007 TAS. The most noticeable is the fuse; stretched infront and behind the wing. I believe it is 3.5" longer in the front and 4+" longer behind the wings. Overall it is about 8.5" longer than the original Dalton Extra 300.

I'm planning to run at DA1*0 on Greve Pipes with 8711 servos and the spectrum 2.4 9303 for guidance.

You may have seen my 42% Dalton Extra 260 build last year here on FG. Dalton 42% Extra 260 Build That plane was built completely stock. It now has about 120 flights on it and it is really locked in and holding up very well. It weighed in at 38-38.5 lbs. The Daltons are pretty big... the 260 is 123" WS and 110-112" long (spinner to rudder)

This plane I am going to pull all the tricks I know to keep the weight in the 36-37 lb range... or less The ML300 is 123" WS and 118 long.

Well... plane should be here Friday so I'll get started this weekend... is it Friday yet?

If you have any questions during the build, please ask... afterall that's what these are for!

MattyMatt,
I've been watching for a build on this plane since TAS. I am interested to see if you can make the 37lb weight. I am thinking DA-170 if it is released soon as rumoured. I have subscribed to this thread....

We're on the same track Steve...

Oh yeah... one important point... I will NOT be replacing any of the wood from the kit. I will use all the stock components... including the alumium LG.

I just finished my 300 and it came in at 36lbs with cored wings. My computer just crashed and I lost all of my build pics with the wing mods. Sucks, I had over 150 pics saved. The plane flies great, much less roll coupling than the 260. If you like your 260 you are going to love this one.

Awesome Matt. Can't wait to see this one finished! What IMAC class are you flying again?

JPrc... I really like your 300, very nice work. I will be doing similar mods to the wings as well. 36lbs... great weight.

RJ: I'm flying intermediate and am planning on hitting 4-6 contests this year! Get some cans on your QQ and start practicing.... you going to fly with us this year?

I'll be flying with you as much as I can this year. I'll start off in Basic (fun fun). Just flew the Yak twice a couple days ago and a rudder cable snapped! But that's on its way to being solved. Cans will hopefully be installed by the end of January.

Matt, most of the wood that came with my kit said it was contest grade already. Very quality kit.

Hey Pride...

I agree the wood in Tony's kits is top notch.... they all come with contest grade wood. That's not the issue. Many people will go with thinner sheeting on the wings, turtle deck, fuse sides, and hatch to save weight.

Saving weight is like saving money... every penny counts.

My plan is to build the plane at the weight I said without replacing the stock components in the kit.

The funny part is the plane would probably come in about 38 lbs in stock trim anyway.
