For the moment I'm working to make a good "cooling system" for my EF Yak. I made a first prototype for cooling the back of the engine, I'll do the front just on the casual way... I hope it works, but I don't know, any thoughts?

My friend made some plates very similar to that on his 110 and a baffle similar to my first one. We have been flying together. Mine with no baffle and his with all the baffling. We both come to the conclusion that it does work but it's an overkill. I'll try to take a picture of his today.

Well I think it's basically a good idea to have a good baffeling, but also on the back because most of the time the front is cooled very well but the back isn't...

I flew my 1st 110" Yak for over 600 flights without any baffeling... It was ok to fly the plane hard for about 10-15min. But then I really had to let it cool down, the goal is to make it possible to do flight after flight on this one...
I go fly in the evening alot, we can only fly till 7PM, so I want to practice as most as possible in this short period.

Also my setup requires to put everything in the nose, so no problem if a good baffle adds some extra weight...

I have an eagle tree system now, so I'll test inflight temps with and without the baffles etc... (but this will take a while since it's Winter :-) )

What were the temperatures with and without the baffles?

I talked to Toni Clark (tech service of DA in Europe) and he told me the measurements right after the flights are kind of worthless, they tested with inflight sensors with totally different results.

seen guys using a venom on-car temp monitor, with good results....
As it is able to record highs and lows throughout the flight....

Anyone using a BME 150cc on this one??

I just finished my EF Russian Thunder Yak, I'm going to maiden it next week and then put it in the modeling room till next Feb ready for the Competition Season! Together with the 123" Extra which will arrive the first week of December! With this 2 planes I'll have the EF Hanger I always dreamed about!

I'll post some more pictures and "building" information later, but here are the first pics...

My Setup:

DA 100L, BMB 60mm Tuned Pipes
1* Bionic 2200 2S Lipo (Ignition)
2 * Bionic 3300 2S Lipo
PowerBox Evolution
Vess 28A (Laminated) prop
Futaba Fasst

ps: I'll do a building thread on the 123" Extra as soon as it arrives!
ps2: Yes, I know my building room is a mess :-) But finally I can clean it now lol

Wow~....
THose are some long headers!....
Is that normal length??
If it is , I am quite short with my install of my Cap....
I will have to call up DA and see what they say...
ANyone know what the IDEAL header length is for a pair of MTW TD 75K??
for a DA 100..?

@JKoch713: About the length, the lenght of the headers is alot longer if you use tuned pipes!
So it's normal yours are alot shorter! But I recommend to contact DA and ask for the Perfect length for you cans.
I believe my header length was 29cm for the BMB 60MM Tuned pipes.

Hope this helps

JVDO, So is it ok to run the YAK on a DL111 without baffels? And what is your take on Vess props ? They any good for 3D or just IMAC?

Yes, I agree its a good idea to get some air to the back of the cylinders. I didn't get any pictures of the ducts on the back of the motor but I did get a couple of the front baffle. I'm interested to see your results with the eagle tree. I've got the sensors on my motor I just need to get a recorder.

FWIW. Ground readings on the ground immediately after landing are ~130 with the baffling and ~160 without. I keep a close eye on my motor and I haven't noticed any overheating without the baffle. You could absolutely lean it out to the point it overheated, but with a little common sense and a properly tuned engine it's fine without the baffle.
