Great info Charles! Since the temp has droped here in Michigan I am noticing my engine to be a bit pipey. Funny, in the heat of the summer it seems fine. I may just try the extending my headers to 12.5 inches

The soldering rods DA sells work good. I tried some from a local welding shop with some Harris flux and it didn't work as good as the rods DA sells. I just cleaned the header up good with some sand paper then cleaned them with some denatured alcohol. I used the Harris flux that I already had which probably wasn't necessary with the coated rods. You have to heat the header cherry red before it will flow. Then just clean the flux off with water and a wire brush.

I have seen Lee Morey's 110" Yak fly with stock length headers and it was great. I'm curious what is different. Maybe some of the headers are different lengths.

The optium header length i belive and that works for me is 13.5 to 14 inch on the RE-2 with da-100 and 28x10 mezjlik. DA gave me those lenghts and they are the way to go for perfect crisp and fast throttle with a great top end! Try it! |

Hiya all, Just finishing up my bird and have run into some problems with maximum throws on my rudder. At the moment I get 42 degrees of throw using two hitec 7955TG with the recommended servo arms, i.e. a 4.5" offset arm from SWB with a 3” straight arm on the second servo. I am using the outer holes in both the 4,5" servo arm as well as the rudder horn which works perfect geometry wise for the pull-pull setup. Changing to the inner hole of the rudder horn do not provide any more throw. I have not yet connected and tested with my TX and RX, but using my hitec programmer I should be able to get a correct reading on max throws. The servo signal the programmer uses in EPA should be the same as max EPA on the TX according to Hitec. Could you guys share any info on your throws? I guess a lot of people are using the same setup as I am due to the recommendation in the manual. I could go low resolution on the servo and get another 60 degree movement in the servo. However, I would not like to give up servo resoulution, but I would really like to have at least 50 degrees of throw on my rudder ![]() Best regards, Jesper Last edited by harley007; 11-21-2009 at 09:19 AM. |

My rudder is maxed just a tad before it touches stab. There's no point do more throw, because during rolling loop, or something high AoA, you will end up crushing rudder against the stab. I Have same setup as you, and no problem.

Aight, might be some strange phenomena between the hitec programmer and the TX/RX then. I am guessing you got approx 55 degrees if you are right before it touches the stab, which is what I normally use on my smaller planes in 3D setup. Are you running full resolution on your hitecs? Low resolution gives 180 degrees while full resolution gives 120. If you have not programmed and changed your settings in the servo, the default is high. |

@Harley007; the rate you programmed with the hitec programmer is not the same as the one you have with your TX? ... If this is your problem go into your "linkage" menu and click "end point" change these end points to 135% or 140% and you will have the same throws as you programmed with the hitec programmer... (for Futaba radios). Cheers

Thx for the reply JVDO, seen your action on video and it is really inspiring stuff ![]() Anyhow, I will get the RX into the plane tonight and have only been working with the HPP-21 programmer as of yet. What puzzles me is that the signal I am giving the servo with the programmer should be the same as 150% EPA on my JR pcm9x TX if I understand this correctly. The reason why I am asking around before I actually checked my throws out with my TX/RX is my worries that I was coming out low on throws with my "mechanical" setup. I was hoping that the signal from the programmer matched 100% signal in my TX which would had explained my low throws, but again, checking the manual clearly states that this should not be the case. Anyhow, I might go sleepless tonight and check everything out with my TX/RX tomorrow and get back to you guys. The Gardeners reply is a bit reassuring due to the same setup but no problems with the throws. |
