Default Re: Do you use the wet method to apply your vinyl graphics?

I lay out the graphics and use masking tape at the edges of the backing paper. Once I have everything set to exactly where I want them I take the backing off. I lay the vinyl down at one end and use my finger to squeegee it down from one end to the other. Never an air bubble and always straight. Even multiple layers. Take your time. Just like anything else. Set up, layout and masking is 90% of the battle. I can vinyl an entire plane 33%-46% ish in only an hour. Thats a set of around 14 or so vinyls not including layering

Be confident or be prepared to ruin the vinyl. Be safe and go with soap mist if your not experienced.

Ps : when layering font or drop shadows use a light from behind the covering. Makes lining the margins up very simple while masking the parameter and before dropping the vinyl.

I love dropping vinyls. The plane really comes to life. In fact it is my favorite part of any assembly. This is when the plane becomes mine!

Windex ,smooth out bubbles with a credit card,to be honest my planes din't live long enough to get to the graphic stage for the first 2 years now the only planes I crush are the ones I bother to take the time to apply them neet little stickers,or spend two days airbrushing

I use rapid tac as well. Be sure to sweegie really well a credit card or the like. After it dries if you find you have some air bubbles, just poke 'em with a pin. Then go fly!

We do not recommend using Windex on any graphics no matter who they are from. Some of the ingredients will eat away at the glue and make it possibly fail or worse yet make it impossible to remove from the surface. We will not warranty any decals that were put on with Windex nor will 3M graphics division. Soapy water will work fine, normally 1 teaspoon to a spray bottle or if you do not like the soap and water results you can try Rapid Tac Application fluid. All of our customers that have tried it love the product and one spray bottle will last you quite some time. (1) 8oz bottle sells for $7.

I agree Highlights, The plane does not get personalized until you do put the graphics on, the best part is you know you are almost ready to fly at that point!

I second JackL post -- Rapid Tac from Kirby's is awesome. Much easier to use than Windex.
And FWIW, I've learned the hard way not to leave your graphics laying around for months, then try to apply them. The top layer becomes very difficult to remove. When there fresh, it's a snap.

I used a dry erase marker to mark where I wanted the grafix to go and measured everything out then I sparyed Rapid Tac generously on the surface then when it was in the right place I sprayed the top surface of the grafic with water with a dab of soap and squeged all the water out making sure to get all the bubbles out. Let it all dry about 30-45 minutes then remove the top layer of take leaving only your grafic.
Good Luck

How is rapidtac easier than windex? I'm not flaming. I just can't imagine anything being easier than windex.

You don't have to wait overnight for rapid tac. Once you squeege the air out they are done. I then spray the application paper with windex and rub it into the paper, let it sit for about 30 sec and the paper pulls off much easier without lifting the graphics or covering.

You called it JPrc, rapid tac is good when you don't want to spend alot of time....I'm from Lafayette, currently serving in Korea, stationed out of Eglin AFB, FL... Have done many of the fly ins at Acadiana Cajun R/C. Later
