Progress on the canopy frame mold. Used some chopstrand glass on this successfully. Next up is the main fuselage mold, I left the best till last.

Here is the canopy frame mold/ solid canopy. Hung up a little on the dams as they were rather rough. Quite a tight corner at the front but the Zyvax release is really good in these tight spots.

Giving the parts Zyvax release. This is my biggest mold yet and will be in 3 parts as the firewall and pipe tunnel are undercut. I make the splitterplates and dams and then seal and release coat them before assembly. You can see the splitter plates in the background on the bench.

Got her mounted in the splitter plates. Now for the clay seal between the plates and the fuselage. Then the outer dams.

Put on the dams. All the pushing around has moved the clay seal around so I need to do some of it again. Will be able start the molding later today.

This is showing the registration buttons. Rolled balls of clay and cut them in half. Melted the back of them with a heat gun so they would sit down properly.

The first gell coat used 540 gms of resin. The release is so slippery that even thick gell can bead off it so it needs going over a couple of times before it goes off. Zyvax do 6 different levels of slip for different applications. You can use different grades for different parts of the mold. I am using fast hardener as it is quite cold here at the moment.

After 3 coats of gell I put on a layer of 200gm glass then some chopstrand around the perimeter.

Put on another layer of 200gm over the top of the chopstrand and then put some chopstrand over the main part of the fuselage.
