Im asked alot about how to ship large model planes so I thought I would do a build thread on how I build my shipping crates. The first thing is to determin is how big a crate you need. I then go to Home Depot and have them cut the pieces to the sizes I need on there panel saw. This crate is 8 ft long 2 ft wide and 32" tall. I use 1x2s and 7?16 OSB. I ship through Forward Air and the charge by dimensional weight. The finished crate ends up weighing about 210lbs but they charge you for about 350 lbs so I am not concerned with keeping the crate light. Here is a pic of the parts after being cut. 1 sheet of OSB cut in half for the top and bottom 2 sheets cut down to 32" 2 24X32 pieces. I had some ply laying around so I used that on this one. Home depot usually has 2ft by 4 ft sheets so you dont have to by a full sheet for the end pieces 10 1x2s

I use a staple gun for the assembly but you can use screws or rent a gun from HD.

I first start by making the sides. Staple 2 1x2s as shown.

Shoot the staples through the sheeting and into the 1x2. Also if you have never used one of these guns before be carefull. Sometimes a staple will hit a knot and shoot of in another direction so wear safety gogles and keep your hands clear.

Next cut the vertical supports for the sides and staple in place

Next is to cut 2 1x2s for the inside of the end caps and staple in place. This gives you something to staple into when attaching the bottom.

Next attach the bottom of the crate. Make sure to keep it square.

Cut some strips for the bottom so that they can get a forklift under it.

You can now turn the crate over and cut a couple more supports for the top same as you did for the bottom.

I bubble wrap the fuse and other parts. If you have the foam cores from the wings use those or wing bags. I put a layer of foam peanuts on the bottom and then put the plane in
