Guys,, I'M HORRIFIED at your childish responses on this thread!!! NOW STOP GIGGLING AND READ!! Before there was TRAINER CORDS this was the way we had to teach. No simulators, no trainer cords no nothing. You had the choice of standing beside the trainee and asking for the transmitter- This was called the SIDE STANCE. The other option (pictured above) is known as the CLASSIC REACH AROUND. I can't tell you how many times in the 70's you would here a new guy at the field ask "Hey buddy,, I'm a bit nervous about flying the plane by myself. It would certainly calm my nerves if you could give me a reach around." Being as modelers are a helpful bunch, it wasn't at all uncommon to have several guys giving buddies reach arounds at any one time.
Remeber guys,, if your student shows up at the field ready for instruction without a trainer cord,, fear not ! Just assume the position and give him a reach around!!

yes lets all be open minded. they both seem to be enjoying so who am I to say anything. Personally, I would be uncomfotable in either position.
