| Renee and I both woke up this morning at the same time around 3:30am. We got about 4 hours sleep which is about 2 more than we have gotten all weekend. They came in to X-ray Jessica, as they do every morning at this time. Everything had been going along just normal which, in itself, is a miracle after yesterday. Renee and I both fell back asleep around 5am. All of a sudden every bell and whistle was going off. We both jump up, all the nurses and doctors fly in the room. Jessica’s breathing tube had been removed. Remember she is under restraints. There was nobody in the room but Renee and I. I was only 2 feet from her, where I sleep. All the nurses and doctors are talking about how did she do this? Nobody had done this in this hospital before as they could recall. Everybody stays as calm as possible and just monitors the events happening. The doctors are trying to get her to wake up. They were going to put it back in if she wouldn’t respond. So I stepped in again and told her to open her eyes, she did. I told her to raise her arm, she did. I asked the doctor, good enough. At this point they decide to roll with it. They inject her with a reversal agent to the sedation meds. She starts to wake up. We have a mask on her to get oxygen. She is trying to go nuts for the first 15 minutes that she is waking up. She grabs her stuff animals with her toes and starts flinging them around the room. That’s our girl. She calls to mommy. We get her to start coughing up the mucus still in her lungs. She is breathing on her own. This has been nothing short of a miracle this morning. Neither this girl, nor anybody in this room pulled out that tube, I truly believe that. The tape holding it in place was still there, the stomach tube is still in place. That tube is a constant pumping of her stomach; if we didn’t have it than she would be throwing up the mucus that she is coughing up; the chances of her pulling the one and not the other, slim. Remember she is in restraints. The chance of doing any of this is just about impossible. Well for the latest. She is breathing totally on her own. They have the oxygen mask on but they are going to let her go for right now. She is sleeping right now but did wake up and communicated with Mommy and Daddy. I told you before that these people had no idea what they had here in this little girl. Keep up the prayers, they have obviously been working. Rick
