No ground effect, no flutter, no turbine falling out... just a momentary blip of down. All failsafe was set correct, throttle cut, hold everything else. What David posted (Toro's post, TY Toro) IS the reason for the crash. So please stop the speculation. If you want to read whats already been assumed, go to the other site (U) and read there. a speed reading would be great to know. The Ultra Bandit was going much faster than you think at that point. What a big loss. I have seen jets before and you think they are doing 100mph, then you clock them and they are on the fine line of 200. The big Ultra Bandit is a great example of an airframe that is flying MUCH faster than it looks. It does look with the video that the left wing shifted for a second, but then again it could be the resolution. At that speed, and that low just a milisecond problem and it would be dust. Hope he took it OK, that makes our 40+%ers look like chump change.

Well said Jason old mate.

One thing for sure is when there is a terra firma contact with one of the top pilots in the industry the couch potato analysts sure come out of the woodwork. Altogether I actually like to see the debates and all the possibilities being thrown around as often something good does come out of it. I mean if just some people become a whole lot more aware of the deadly consequences of switching on when they don't have the pin then there is value in the conversation.
I see lots of comments about how dangerous that could have been if!!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you a sixty sized trainer out of control can still kill you. It does not need to be doing 100 mph either.

One thing for sure is this has be one of the best adverts JR have ever made as why 2.4 Ghz is the way of the future.

Sorry to see the loss of a terrific model David.

I can't believe this thread has gotten this far even after Jason him self posted what him and his brother have already said what has happen. I personally talked with Jason the night of the barbeque and he said at that time they where still looking at the problem. Well it looks like they found it acording to Jason's post above,so in my oppion we should stop speculating and move on to the next topic. Rob

Were they not using the pins that day from both the pavilion and the tent on the flight line? Looked like some confusion going on there. Seems maybe they need a tighter impound, something like this should have never happened.

Kiwi, how's it going down there mate? Missed you this year at the Nall. Next year. BTW: Contact me in January about March if you want...

I don't mind a good debate, but lets do it about what happened. There was no flutter on anything (HD video proves it). The momentary glitch... we don't know where it came from; if someone accidently turned on and off realizing that they didn't have the pin (which my brother did have, with AMA card in slot), or if it was intentional (hope not, too hard to swallow that one). There are 2 topics to debate about, but that's what was the cause of the crash... momentary glitch.

It's still all about safety guys, I know we can all speculate and assume sooner or later it's going to happen and when it does I just have one question. What will we do for a hobby then? I not trying to be a wet blanket or a sour puss but we should look at things and ask ourselves is it really worth it, I remember when this hobby use to be fun now if you're not flying a 40% plane some places don't even want you to get you stuff out of the van or trailer, one reason I did not attend this year, it's turned into a competition instead of a hobby, I just hope and pray no one gets injured or even worse someday. I still like the hobby and it's a great past time for us all but we must draw a line in the sand somewhere. God Bless all.

Was sure sorry to see that beautiful jet hit the ground....

What all of us should be concerned about is that the vid of the crash is now flying around the world multiple times. At some point a TV station may decide to pick it up and air it "for the viewers".....and what if some of the viewers happen to be land owners or governmental officials where we fly....or worse yet someone with an ax to grind against the RC flying community in general.

No matter how much insurance we have through the AMA, or what safe guards we put in place that vid could sure do a lot of unintended damage to a whole lot of us...

Hmmmmm.....I'm suspicious. If that were some sort of control failure (linkage breaking, control horn, etc) it would've wobbled, kinda like a flutter. Possible flutter, yes, but again, -seemingly- no wobble, just straight in, like it would've been a dumb thumb. It looks like at the last second, up input was applied to try and catch it but wasn't quick enough, had it been a control failure (at that speed) with just one elevator deflecting, that thing would've at least begun to snap before hitting. I suspect dumg thumb, doesn't take much ooops! at that speed and altitude to cause something catastrophic...

see previous posts for confirmed, replicated, and factual conclusion directly from the pilot himself.

I've seen the HD vid with his TX in the picture, and it is not a dumbthumb. A radio hit through and through.
