there are very few people that I will take there word as gospel but both David and Jason are some of them. I have watched the video over and over just like everyone else and I truely believe there was a momentary lockout.

As for the safety issue yes I feel that we need to do everything we can to protect ourselves and the people around us but I honestly don't know what else David could have done or anyother person in that situation could have done whether it was a jet, aerobatic airplane, warbird or trainer. David had his failsafes setup correctly and if an airplane goes into failsafe that doesnt automatically me everthing is going to be alright. I dont care if the plane went into lockout at 500 feet, it doesnt mean that when it runs out of gas a few miles down the road that its not going to hit someone or something. I also lived in Tucson when the guy killed himself with a 40 sized trainer because he lost it in the sun. Sometimes things happen, thats all. As Jason said everthing we do has risk involved.

so go for or push for safety changes NOW. push for it.You will thank yourself later.Own up to the fact you or whom ever was REAL LUCKY. NOW, take the luck out of the equation and get those responsible for putting on these shows/exhibitions ect,to make it so it is safe....in other words...spectators not so close to the flight line. YOU and all here at the giants owe that to ourselves and the public. If you make every attempt to fix the problem,no one can blame anybody. and besides it looks good on all of us, afterall ,you did see it, right? then lets fix the safety issue- cause it IS AN ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED.

This thread is a great example of the bad.

"Armchair quarterbacks with little to no knowledge providing explanations to things they have little to no insight on from watching a YouTube video."

The QQ Seff crash threads are another example. People screaming conspiracy theories! What a frikin joke.

When i see the BLUE ANGELS fly their show at Jones Beach n.y., they HAVE to fly 1/4 mile from shore-away from crowds.....Because tragic things can happen with planes.... if they can fix it , we should too...

i've always felt that if you feel strongly enough about something to openly complain about it, then you should also come to the table with suggestions for improvement. Don't preach about safety improvements without having real suggestions for how to make things safer.

we all get it....you feel that safety improvements need made. Fine. Now that you've made your point clear, quit preaching and go DO something about it.

WHOA! Just saw this. Reel it in guys, and take into consideration that the Jet Crowd are our brother modelers. Accidents and crashes happen all the time, and in each one, there is something to be learned. I witnessed this crash personally, and albeit spectacular, at the end of the day, IMO, it was another model airplane crash. "What if's" can go on ad infinitum and, IMO, are completely irrelevant and only damage modeling as a whole. Jet guys are our modeling comrades; if we give persecute them, we become the people we despise the most. Think about it.

David Shulman is one of the most respected, admired, and honest pilots in this sector of the hobby, and he is also a strong support of FlyingGiants, and a friend. Take his word as deity, he's a good dude. One of the reasons we did not post our footage of this event - we felt that we would benefit from the misfortune of a friend, and that ain't cool. We'll be moderating this along the same theme.

I hope this dosen't piss anyone off, and that you can see our position.

Thanks guys.

Everyone sitting there signed a waver telling them something could happen to them. Standing at my own flying field with some guy flying his .40 sized trainer is just as dangerous.

It is too bad about that jet. It looked great.

I don't know Ken. To me, all models have inherent safety issues wheather they be giant scale gassers, warbirds, or jets. It's our job as modelers to mitigate these risks, and remember that they are potentially very dangerous toys. I think this video has done exactally that, and will pull people out of their comfort zones. In my opinion, I do not think any rules should come from this, and have faith in our fellow modeling brothers.
