RJ Gritter makes history with Hempel-style One-Wing KE landing

On Sunday 9/16/07 RJ Gritter got an unexpected chance to duplicate a little piece of RC history. Just about everyone in the RC community has seen the video or heard the story of Bill Hempel losing a wing in flight yet managing to guide the plane on knife edge back to the runway and land the plane with only one wing. Watch and see what happens to RJ Gritter when he is suddenly faced with his own one-wing challenge at the RDRC Fly-for-Tots in Raleigh NC.

AAAHHH the good ol MC 580, Ive been waiting for mine to give out for a while, full throttle blenders and a very fast elevator its going to happen.

Not taking anything away from that great save but it appears that these guys are getting pretty good at one wing landings.

Here's one of Bogan saving his pride and glory at the recent Desert Aircraft Challenge in Down Under Oztralia.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, that was one hell of an experience! I still grin ear-to-ear just thinking about it, and Fred's awesome video isnt helping... I think i'm going to need a grin-ectemy!

Jeesh, I never thought I'd be so happy about my airplane tearing itself apart...

Haha I was thinking of Bogan's, but at least he had a good bit of wing left... his was another awesome save!
