Hello. I've been playing around with Blender http://www.blender.org and I thought that it would be fun to get some kind of project going. I can see some value in playing in 3d. Examples can be; Flying tutorials(being able to slow down the flight, show stick-movements at the same time as zooming in on control surfaces. Building tutorials, it would be easy to show the newcomer to foamies how to build/setup those. Even full fuse scale planes should be possible(although that would take some serious time to both build the models in 3d, and render movies). Prototyping. Curious on how the new plane would look with a new paint job, or any other changes? That's possible with 3d. And mabye making some "funny" movies on topics that are on everybodys lips? Endless possibilitys, only the imagination sets the limits on this. I'd prefer to work in Blender, since thats the program I'm starting to learn. Another important issue is COST. Blender is free to download, use and create whatever you want from(GPL License). It works on most platforms. If you have no 3d experience, i'd be more then happy to help out in getting you started. I attach some samples on what can be done with Blender. Please keep in mind that I'm no expert though, so the detail work could(and will) be improved. So, if you feel like jumping in on creating some new stuff, just reply in this thread.

It can import DXF files, so you could create your 3d model from that. It takes a little work though. I wouldn't say that Blender is a CAD program. It's not really suited for designing things from scratch. It's more used to create things by "feel", or by importing CAD DXF files. You can also use a 3 view of a plane as background, and create your 3d model from that. That's how I do it.

Adjonym, I think you got a great idea. I would love to see something like this, I am personally into 3d modeling myself but unfortunately in this situation it would not be good for me. I primarily use it for modeling buildings since i am majoring in architecture. I do know that there are some good programs out there. I use a combination of Rhino3d, Formz, Google sketchup, autocad, and am now learnign how to use 3dmax. If you want to see some serious renderings of buildings then check out spine3d.com, i am starting a intership with them and am hoping that they can further my skills since all they use is 3dmax with vray for rendering. I am going to keep up on this thread.
