Looks great! Pay close attention to the lines leading into and exiting elements in your maneuvers. Line - Element - Line. Looks really good though! You gonna try to get to TAS?

Thanks Mike! In my last contest, I was told a couple times that my lines after the element are a bit short. It happens because I typically fly low and it really bites me in the ass for IMAC. Just another thing I need to work on, that's what it's all about. TAS is a bigtime goal for me.. not to sure it could happen this year, but eventually I want to go. One thing that is a bummer is I flew my first contest this year out of region, and wanted to get the points transfered, but my regional director is not answering e-mails.. so that will not help for TAS. |

Nice flying. I liked the hucking at the end. I've had a DR Extra for 4 years now and is similar in many ways to your extra. there are things it gets mad at you for trying to do...like tight upright harrier turns, but you stayed away from those and showed the plane very well. Also pops over better outside than inside. I'm curious as to how much throw (for differential purposes) you have on the up and the down ail. on high rates?

TAS is AWESOME. I'm sure my trip in 2007 was my last, but it was the best thing I've ever done in my life. So many friend and so much FUN! Lots of work, but damn, you learn a lot and become SO GOOD! If you can, FLY BIG!!! Not outrageous, but Wayne will agree with me, FLY BIG. Before each flight, he would say to me "What two words are we focusing on today?" FLY BIG! It gives you so much more time to concentrate on the lines in between elements.

Hey Tim, I think I put mechanically 80mm down 70mm up, but then I have to add in a bunch on my radio as well. I tuned it in by flying away from myself on a 45 upline and then give it full aileron. Adjust differential until it tracks straight away from me. This plane is excellent all around IMO for both IMAC and Freestyle type flying. It takes a while to learn how to stay with it in the wild 3D stuff, but pays off after you get the feel. I always think I want a mid wing plane, but the more I fly this, I wonder about it. Mike, I hear the same from my friends in IMAC. Bigger is better, I just get in grooves when I practice alone a lot.. bad habits form very easily when noone is around to point it out. This plane has plenty of power to fly big also. Why won't you be going to TAS again? Getting married or something?? |

Nah, I am taking a break this year because work is so busy and by the time I get back into it, I'll be in unlimited and that will be VERY hard to get to TAS with the competition I'm in out here with Wayne and Larry and Kurt Koelling and Will Berninger and Ken McGuire etc...it'd take a miracle. On the other hand, I could legally stay in Intermediate and be called a sandbagger for the next couple of years...LOL My Yak is about to go for it's 2nd flight today...need to fly it on a calmer day...

Tim, if you look at 7:04 in the video, it is a good example of the plane getting angry with me. I nosed the plane over into a flatspin, and from there attempted to slide right into a high alpha KE. It coupled so bad I jsut flipped it over and did somethign else. With this airframe, at least with mine, you have to EASE into the high alpha KE.
