I would love to see the pic inside pic of a rolling harrier/circles. I am wearing out the sim, and I get 1 roll, and I am timed off somewhere. Would love to see some instructional vids on it so I can see the TX . Thanks. Keith

Are you trying for a specific number of rolls in the cirlce??? (Precision) I started by learning inward 90 degree 1 roll rolling turns. The progressed to inward 180 degree turns with 2 rolls and from that started practicing 4 roll 360 degree circles to the inside. I am definitely better in one direction then the other but can do them both ways. After you get the hang of that go for outside turns (roll in the opposite direction to the turn) Then make it 3 rolls in the circle, then two then one, by the time you can do an outward one roll, roller you should be pretty damn trick on the rudder and elevator inputs. Rolling hariers will become a breeze then!! Have fun! PS I am by no means an expert on the one roll rollers, but I still practice them for my rudder/elevator inputs. I have been gettin better and better at my rolling harriers as well since practising the precision side of it. |

I agree with Str8huckin. I started to learn with just elevator. Granted they look crap but it's a start. As I got it perfect with elevator only I started to work with the rudder. Now it just comes naturally. At first you might seem like your just rolling the left stick around (if you fly mdoe 1) but then you learn when inputs are needed and yuor timing will change. Practice practice practice. I've not once had to rebuild a plane on a sim

| GiantStyle Yapoleno Hucker! ![]() | Keith, I'd have to say I disagree with the people suggesting trying it with elevator only... It builds bad habits and 'lumpy' rollers/circles. The most helpful thing for me is to practice them and visualize the maneuver with the airplane at the points. IE, if I'm flying a one roll outside rolling circle, I picture the airplane upright in front of me, left tip down at 9 oclock, inverted at 12oclock, right tip down at 3 oclock and back to upright in front of me (this is of course for an outside rolling clockwise circle starting from upright). After I can picture this in my head, I then fly the airplane through the maneuver flying the circle as a 4 point rolling circle. From that point on, all I have to do is smooth the transitions between each 'point'. Practicing this way will help get the 'rythm' down so you don't lose it at key points and helps you think through the maneuver so you can visualize what a successful maneuver looks like. One other odd idea - if you are serious about doing them and doing them well, then start off by practicing them opposite the way you would normally, then go back and practice them in the direction you are more inclined to fly them. In other words, get rid of your natural bias right from the start so you can comfortably fly both directions through the maneuver. (I wish I was better at taking my own advice on this one) Here's a vid of some one rollers. http://www.theprofilebrotherhood.com.../Sentinel1.wmv Good luck dude!

Thanks guys! I think I am trying to do them way too fast. I had a great instructor when I was 8,but he did teach me 2 very bad things unknown then some 21 years ago. So now, here I am 2 years into 3D, and now having to learn rudder and rights..... Something the elders don't do where I learned. They were go fast and turn lefts. I was out of the hobby for 16 years, and now back as of the last 4. I am mostly(but better every day) lefty and rolling left/inside rolls. Should I try slow rolls first? As in a big circle and 360 roll withing 1 revolution? I need to make a 40% like 15 lbs and very slow flying just to keep it slow. I know it won't feel right, but I just need to get the right inputs at this time. Thanks, Keith

Keith, These aren't free, but I bought an instructional DVD with Chris Maier and I thought it was worth the money. Many of the routines maybe below what you're looking for, but the stuff on rolling harriers got me going in the right direction. Still can't do them too long before I fall out, but I'm getting there. http://www.jpmediainc.net/ultimate3d.html Site seems to be down at the moment, but I'm sure it'll be back up soon. - Wayne |
