Ok lets see how far back I can go. My father was flying before me and I remember some of his stuff. He tarined on a Debolt Jenny. The first airplane of his that I actually remember was an Andrews Trainer Master with a Merco .60 twin plug. My first trainer was a Sterling Fledgling powered by an Enya .35. Back then there were no mufflers, just a butterfly valve that would cover most of the exahust port at low power settings but open at full throttle via mechanical linkage off the carb. The pinnicle at that time was my dad's Midwest mach 1 powered by a ST blue head .60 with a Kraft 5 channel and Kraft retracts. My first solo was with a Bridi Trainer 20 powered with an HB 25. Shawn |

The so 80's "Byro Drive", Byrojet and the Byron Pitts. The Byro Drive and Byro jet sucked, but their 3rd scale pitts was awesome. My God father had one with a 35cc Webra Bully. that thing was wicked in those days. My dad still has loads of classic s#it. Remember the OS 77vrdf, was THE motor for ducted fans in the 80's, with a Dynamax fan. K&B 11.5cc and Viojet fan there aswell. |

Ok lets talk about the 80's. I was mostly pylon racing and then flying helicopters. My Q-500's wer kits by Spickler and powered with K&B .40s. Radio was a Kraft KP5C. No servo reversing, no throw adjustments no NOTHING. At the pinnicle of my Q-500 days I was flying a modded Scat Cat with a webra speed .40 a JR Apollo 4 channel and Novak servos. My first Heli was a Shluter Heli boy with a webra .61 blackhead, Kraft KPS 15 servos and NO gyro ( they didn't have them yet ). As time progressed I moved up to a Shluter heli Star, GMP Competitor, GMP Legend. I was a GMP rep for a while and when they folded I started flying the reletivly new X-cell 60. Shawn |

The first Kit i built was a Topflite Headmaster, with a Veco.19. Built loads of old timers with my dad before that, things like Buzzard Bombshells, Red Zephyrs and the like. On the helis, remember those Kavan Jet Rangers? earlier than that Du-Bro Whirly bird?. Still got a Schluter Mini Boy, Heli Boy, and a Concept .30( one of the first "Plastic" Helis) |

Wow, brings back memories. Of the original pictures, I knew the first two (Pulsar and Dalotel), had no clue on the radio, and guessed the Kraft Super Fli. My first plane was a Goldberg Skylane 62 that lasted 6 flights (midair) and I continued training on an Andrews H-Ray w/ OS Max III .15, butterfly exhaust valve. I still have the H-Ray and the OS .15. I also have a Veco .19 NIB. Our club was having a mall show, and some kid walked up asking if anyone wanted to buy it. I gave him $10 for it. It has the rotary exhaust valve coupled to the carb. I flew the mess out of a Skylark 56, K&B .40 (perry carb) back in the '70s. I only put 1 inch of dihedral in the wing (plans called for 6") and it flew like a pattern plane. Other vintage planes I flew: Goldberg Falcon 56, modified with ailerons, OS .20. Super Kaos with a Veco .61. Midwest Mach 1 with Northfield Ross .60. Dubro Shark helicopter, first with O&R engine, later with a .60 conversion. Several Miss Marthas, with Como .51 engines. Royal Cessna 310 with two K&B .40s. HotLines Commanche w/ Veco .61 (lasted 4 flights, wing flutter). Sig Kadet (original design, not the newer ones) 3 channel, with OS .25. Most of those were flown with either a Kraft Sport Series Radio (circa 1973) or one of several Proline radios that I had, single sticks. Bob R.
