when you download your movie from the camera it is big-this is a good thing after finishing editing your movie you get to choose the size of the movie in MB dont be tempted to make a fast loading low size movie most preffer to wait to see a decent movie rather than a fast loading one a movie of 4-5 minute will be good around 25-35 mb good luck yonatan |

Martin- I use Sony Vegas, but maybe some of this is the same...When I capture video to my computer (PC), it comes over as .avi (video for windows). It has no compression and is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). You can edit till your heart's content, and wont loose quality. Yes, it is a huge file: I shot 50 min. of footage at the NATS, and it's over 11GB on the hard drive. When I'm done editing, I choose "Render As..." from the menu. It's a way of saving your project to any number of different formats. I (and many others on here) render them as Windows Media Video (.wmv). In the render dialog box there is drop-down for "save as type". When I choose .wmv, default settings for this type of file come up and you can then save it. Here are the default settings that come up: Audio: 64 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo. Video: 29.970 fps, 720x480, Quality VBR 90, WMV V9 Compression. Hope this helps! Doug |

Hi Doug cheers, I will try that next time, see how much is the same, but is that for web quality or for dvd cuality? (I also have the problem of getting 60 minutes of video onto a disc as it cmes out at over 23gb, do you also know how to get round that?) Thanks again Reagrds Martin

| Martin- The .wmv settings are for something you might post on the web. As yonatan said, “a movie of 4-5 minutes will be good around 25-35 mb”. You can play with the settings and make the files smaller, but you start to loose quality. DVD “quality” is actually a compressed format: mpeg2. The 50 min. of .avi footage from the NATS takes up 11GB+ on my hard drive, but when I render it in mpeg2 for burning to a DVD, it will only be around 1.5 – 2.0GB. Most movies on dual-layer (8.5GB) DVDs today are around 5 - 6GB. Doug |

With Pinnacle 9 digital video is uploaded as an .AVI file. After editing it you have the choice of leaving it an .AVI ot changing it to mpeg, wmv, or upload it(there are other options as well and you can also evit some of the ones I mentioned but that is it in a nutshell). Also note that there are bugs in the program which Pinnacle will tell you is your hardware. Most programmers do that as most hardware guys blame the software. Strange but true.
