Looks great.

I know they aren't designed to crash but doesn;t this milling make them a lot weaker and a bit of a pain in the butt to repair. I guess what I mean is they are super light to begin with an dhave insame power, so what is the real benefit. I understand your reference to weight savings in the Carden, but with the low wingloading the indoor machines have I can;t see the benefit for averag joe pilot other than it being a fun new project?

Please describe the flying benefits you can easy tell are related to the lightening of the frame.

Jeremy,

Great thread. I know that Larry Markey, Lynn Morgan, and myself were busy last year milling our own planes. It worked out well and does not take all that much time. Follow Jeremy's steps and you will have a lighter weight foamy!!!

Thanks Matchless! Was starting another prototype and just cutting out the inner layer on my tailfeathers for starters. Thought about the Dremel and tried a couple of jigs but didn't work as well as yours. I was thinking about a vacuum table too. Can't seem to keep the thin part from bowing after the heat from milling. 'Precitate the tutorial!!!

They fly slower. Nothing can be slow enough. Just try flying a foamy in a precision sequence in a single court basketball gym. We fly in much smaller spaces than they do in Europe. Slow flight gives you time to think. Downlines in particular are a problem. These things drop like rocks!

Slower is better.

ROTFLMAO : )

Wayne, I did not get the memo about that!!!

If that is the case, then I'll do my next Foamy How-To next week. It will be titled "How To Fiberglass Your Foamy"!

I have heard of some guys in NY using a vacume table made from peg board material to keep the foam in place and flat.
Great right up Jeremy!

Tried that once. Made it too brittle. Wasn't trying to make it light though. It was .5oz cloth.
