Getting my first foamie and don't have a clue what to get for it. I'm totally clueless about the electric motor numbers. I also don't have a clue about batterys and setup. I am going to order a DW foamie 38.75" yak. I just wanted to see what my options are for motors and esc. I understand that a 1320 2 cell pack is needed for a battery so no question there. Other than that what are my options for servos? My biggest concern is power setup. I don't want to be stuck with marginal power. I have flown a insane foamie yak with a hacker on it and it was bad a$$! I want somthing similar.

Motor Xtra 2829/13 Esc 18 Amp Phoenix Seed Controller Batt 3 cell Thunder power 1320 15c Prop 11*3.8 Apc Slow flyprop I have 7 of the DW Foamies including the giant yak and the micro yak this power set will get you about 12min of heavy 3D,The transition from Idle to full throttle is smooth as butter and will make it easier for first time hovering, and better throttle controll for runnin through the monkey bars at your local playground. | ||||||||||||||||||

So if I were going to run a E-flite motor would I be better off with the park 400, or 450 outrunner? The weight is .5 ounce differeence.

I really like My DW Yak. Easiest building and best flying foamy I ever had. Here is some setup info: Motor: Axi 2212/26 22 is the motor diameter and 12 is the length of the stator in mm. The /26 part refers to the KV of the motor. Lower KV motors make more torque and thats good for 3D. This one works well for foamies in the 14-16oz range. ESC: Castle Creations Thunderbird 18 You probably wont pull more than 12 amps but its best to have the ESC a little over spec. The Thunderbird controllers are cheap and they work great. Battery Pack: 3S (3 cell/11.1V) 1000mah to 1320mah Thats right, 3 cells. If i didn't already have a few packs I would get some of the Flightpower Evolite 1320mah packs. These are a lighter chemistry in the green wrapper. You get more run time and less weight. Prop: APC Slow Fly 10x4.7 This is the premo 3D foamy prop and this setup puts out the power. Servos: Hitec HS56HB There are lots of good servos out there in this size. I find these to be much better than the Hitec HS-55's that most people use on foamies but they cost a bit more. Use what you like. I get around 15 minutes of 3D flying with this setup. I have a 1200mah pack thats the 20C discharge type and its a tad heavy but still flys well. I also have an older 1000mah 15C discharge pack thats lighter and it really likes that one, a total floater. Good luck with your setup. |

Motor - Dualsky XM2830CA-10 Controller - Castle Thunderbird 18amp Prop - APC 10x4.7 Batt. - 3s1p 1000Mha or TP1320 Servos - HS-55 or HS-56 on ailerons and ruder, and HS-65 on elevator All the systems mentioned above will work. Keep the motor under 2oz. If you can 1.5oz is best. Battery should be under 3oz. If the winds are calm, you can also use an 800Mha battery for some fun 3D flying. The plane is designed to have an all up weight of 12.5oz. |
