Ok, this is the deal. I want to design a foamy for you great people (Yes of course on CAD)I'm going to start a poll with a couple ideas of designs and the one with the most votes wins. It's going to be with design categories like "Extra/Edge/Raven/" airplane styles. another category like "foamyristic bipes or monoplanes/F3P" etc... etc... anway.... You will see the polls. I want to design a foamy (for you great people ) that most people will be building out of 3mm Depron or similar foams. I also need to figure out what most people fly. Me, Myself and I usually only fly foamys around the 4oz-8oz range 31"-35" Wingspans. These specs are pretty much the cheapest to build and you can fly them mostly anywhere you want (including your bathroom ) I also know that these designs to most people are "brittle and weak" but if you properly reinforce them these foamys are the best in crashes because the weight is so light that under it's own weight (not power) it usually doesn't break anything important that you need to have to fly the foamy. (I'm talking about like side cheaks breaking near the nose or counterbalances etc..) but yes they can BREAK! don't take my word for it that they "Can't break" because they can! but mostly under the foamys own weight (not power!)it shouldn't . I.E. you doing a stupid maneuver low to the ground and then you know it's going in.... CUTT THE POWER! __________________________________________________ _____________________________________ The NEWBIE part of the thread \/ Ahh, what the heck.... I'm going to share my knowledge on foamys to help the people out who are newbies getting into foamys ![]() I always get ALOT of questions on what to buy and what is the best or cheapest. So, hopefully this will ease things up a bit ![]() I will bring this into the cheapest best foamy setup I know of and to the more expensive better setup I know of and what I use. The cheapest setup I know of.... Cheap motor: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4859 Suggested prop: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4256 Cheap ESC: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4317 Cheap Battery: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5465 Cheap Servos: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5457 Cheap reciever: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5206 If I was going to buy a cheap setup this is what I would buy. I never experienced the motor or ESC and battery in person but mostly every one I talk to about them have had great success with them. same with the servos and I tell you that the GWS pico 4channel is the cheapest and BEST! I love the GWS 4 channel picos. I'v always had great success even when cutting the antenna down to 6 inches! it's one great cheapo receiver. And this setup should be good for foamys that weight around 5-7 oz and with wingspans no bigger then 34" (actually, you can use a bigger foamy it just depends on how light you get it) And if you want to buy this setup here is a detailed list of every thing you will need to complete a foamy. hexTronik 24gram Brushless Outrunner 1500kv http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4859 hexTronik PRO 10A BESC http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4317 HXT 8mm Alloy Motor Mount 2.5g http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5217 3mm Prop Saver http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=3738 GWS EP Propeller (DD-8040 203x102mm) http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4256 LM Loong max 500 3S1P 20C Lipo pack http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5465 4) EM 8g servos http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5457 GWS R4 PII JR 4Ch FM Pico Receiver 72mhz http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5206 Note: you will need to choose a crystal for your correct frequency in your transmitter. Totaly Amount: $65.81 !!! Thats one heck of a deal for a good cheap foamy setup!.Ok, here is my setup I am using now and recommend if you want quality products. Motor: CustomCDR Single Stator "cool wind". This is one awesome motor! http://www.customcdr.com/cgi-bin/ccp...E:singlemotors Suggested Prop: GWS 8x4. I come to find that this is the best and most efficient prop for this setup. ESC: castlecreations ThunderBird 9. Never had one problem with their products. http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...nderbirds.html Battery: ThunderPower 350mah 3cell - 480mah 3 cell. The best batteries out there (ThunderPower in general) http://www.rctoys.com/rc-products-ca...BATTERIES.html Servos: I really go with alot of servos. It just depends on what I have and what is working. Right now I am using Hitec HS 55s because I bought them for a good price. but, the servos like what I listed above are good. The Eflite micro servos are good... I'll give a link for the newbies that just don't know what to choose http://www.rctoys.com/rc-toys-and-pa...EC-SERVOS.html Receiver: GWS 4 Channel Pico http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5206 This is the setup I highly recommend for quality products and that is for foamys around the 31" - 35" Wingspan and that don't weigh no more then 9 oz. Ok, for the newbies. Here is a list of foamys that BOTH the setups will fit perfect and should have no problems flying them. Eflite's Extra 260 foamy http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL2300 Eflite's Sobre foamy http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL1100 Eflite's Funtana 300 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL1150 Eflite's Enticement F3P foamy http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL1175 Note: I do recommend using Eflite's 250 BL motor for the Enticement and a 2 cell 480mah ThunderPower Battery. The CustomCDR motor will work fine it will just be heavier then what Eflite recommends for weight. The Custom CDR would be good for flying the Enticement outdoors in windier conditions, and if you plane on doing this, be sure to not use the airbrakes on the ailerons. (This also goes for the cheapo setup) Ikarus Shockflyer Edge 540T (this plane is ballistic with CCDR single and 350mah 3cell Thunderpower!) http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlin...=265&anid=5327 Ikarus Shockflyer Extra 330S http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlin...=265&anid=5325 Ikarus Shockflyer SuperStar http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlin...85749.10354866 Now,these planes I recommend for Newbies getting into foamy flying because these kits come with easy to follow instructions and mostly all the hardwork is finished. But still, even for the experienced foamy builder, these are great foamys! Hope this helps a bit ![]() -Dan

Also guys, this will be a design that hopefully you wll contribute to on building the foamy and flying it and reporting how it flys and if I need to make changes to the design. Hopefully in the next few days we will get some good votes and I can start sketching. once I get a drawing down I will post the views so every one can see if they're interested in building it.

Id be happy to help with what I can, as long it is in the 3D/F3P range. I've designed a few (5 I think this past winter), and I have a basic idea of what needs done to improve flight performance. Just let me know! Seth |

Always order my foam from www.rcfoam.com great place and never had a problem with them. Sorry guys, I havn't done much more to the foamy plan, I'v been to bussy getting ready for Top Gun and now we're here. I'll get back working on it soon. Ohyeah, CAD is great for designing foamys. I can't even imagine designing a foamy without CAD I can't believe I used to just draw on the foam or paper lol. but, we gotta start somewhere.
