Well, after the untimely end of my first DW Yak, I have now ordered the replacement! Going to use my JR Sport SM22's in this one instead of the Futaba 3114's. The arms just couldn't handle too many walls lol. This time, I'm going to wrap the servos in masking tape and then glue them on. Hopefully this one will last long. I love the way it flys and I've never said that about a foamy before.

Well, after reading as much info as I could stand about foamies in general on this forum and a couple of others I decided to send an email to Mike at DWFoamies and expose my total lack of knowledge on the subject. He answered right away with his phone number and said to give him a call. Let me first explain, I am not a fan of lectric planes. I'm an old guy who has been flying since I was 10 and to me an airplane makes noise. Lots of noise. I sometimes think I fly by my ears. If there are a bunch of planes in the air at the same time and I can't hear my engine I land and just wait till I can. But I'll be darned if I am going to spend good airplane money on a computer program so I can practice 3D at home. A foamy sounds like a good alternitive. Anyway, so I called Mike yesterday, nice guy, and though my short term memory is in the 30 to 45 second range, I believe I have a Yak with motor and esc, prop, 1000mah LiPo, and maybe some other stuff I can't remember on its way to me. I didn't need servos as I have a bunch of those cheepo HXT900's on their way to me. This will be my first foamy and first foamy build, and first lectric plane but nobody will know because I can fly it right out my back door and not take it to the field. What scares me is, what if I like it I mean, I was hoping my next step would be a gasser not some little lectric toy................Oh well, what can I say. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this thing. I even watched some vids of guys flying lectrics and I gotta say they looked pretty cool. Maybe an old dog can learn a new trick. I'll soon find out. That doesn't mean I will stop running for my car when someone pulls out a heliocopter at my field though...................... Tom |

Oh, you will like it The Yak is an excellent 3D trainer. It's what I learned true 3D on. And after it's second or third flight, you'll realise that it's a miniature version of a giant 30% 3D IMAC style plane, just in a compact, "toss in your car for instant anytime fun" electric plane.

That would be dandy Xpress, what's really weird is I already have my next one picked out. I forget what it is called but it has 2 wings, one above the other, and its a DWFoamy. Middle of Sept. I guess. And thats just because Mike answered my stupid questions like they weren't stupid questions. Tom |

Paintball, I remember you! I just went back and counted 38 replies to your e-mail questions, all in about a two week period. You were first looking at a BAF, but I think we went over budget. You should be back from vacation by now, how's the DW YAK flying? Give us another week or so and I should have some Skua bipes ready for shipment. Mike www.DWFoamies.com |

I believe i had somewhere in that range too when i was new to foam as well! Mike was totally helpful and really patient with my extreme lack of knowledge... I cant thank him enough!Really like the skua, and its great that it uses the same electronics as the 38inch planes...because thats all i have...lol! Can't wait to get my hands on one! |

Back around this time of year last year, I knew nearly nothing about foamies, other than the fact that they break a LOT! Well, I was semi-right, but then again I was still learning 3D. I picked up "Electric Flight School" DVD by Wild Berry Productions, and watched that a couple of times, and then I found the "Setting up a foamy" section, with the former owner of Insane Foamies. Boy, that taught me a lot about proper setup and such. Answered nearly all of my questions, like what to hinge with, how to bevel, ect. ect. Mike makes the setup process very easy by notching the fuse pieces, and cutting out alignment holes in the wing/horizontal fuse. Makes assembly fast-maybee 45 minutes if you hurry. paintball, did you get your yak flying yet?
