Default DA 85 or DA 100?

I just can't seem to decide which one will serve me best for a plane I am building now. Its a 3D 35% that will weigh 24.4-25 lbs. I do know that the 85 will be cheaper and require 1 less header/can so that will save money and weight. But will it provide me enough torque for 3D? I am not really in favor of either and am stuck between. Less power and lighter or more torque, but heavier 100??? Thanks for your input.

I think the plane will have less wing loading with the DA85, making it fly better, just my opinion.

I need 3D power though, as long as it will have that...

Put the 85 on a pipe, and then you will have the extra power you are looking for with less cost than the 100 and still less weight.

I agree to that, with a pipe, I am just thinking about the mid range loss I will suffer from with a pipe...

Not really something you can make a decision on, they haven't released any specs for the 85 yet.

There is not much midrange loss with a pipe if you set it up correctly, most of those issues come from folks who dont know how a pipe works.

Why do you think you need more power for 3D???, I have found consistently that flying IMAC sequences is far more power hungry than flying 3D style.

Go for less wingloading for 3D, but if you want a sequence machine I would take the slight increase in wingloading for the extra power.

Because I am a male, more power is better... LOL
Nah, I just like to have good power to pull out of hovering. i do not care much about IMAC personally, though I do appreciate those who do it.

In that case I would guess that the 85 on a pipe would pull out of the hover with good authority if the performace of some of the other 80 class singles in the market is anything to go on.

Again, if I was flying IMAC with it I would put the most power feasable up front.
