Whats a good solid rpm to start with? I know idle, and in air idle often vary quite a bit based on props and loads.I will be running a Mejzlik 23x8. Thanks,Keith

If your engine is broken in then you can somtimes get an idle around 1500 solid as mine does with Mejlik 23x8. If it's new, it will be around 1700-1800.

Ok, I felt comfy at 1900 . Its new. After the first tank on the ground, it really cleared up in 10 minutes of runtime.Ready to fly now!

I wouldn't break the engine on the ground! It gets hot, remember these are air cooled engine and don't worry about deadstick because if your needle setting is not awfully off, you won't get any dead stick. Fly it and break it in the air. Don't do a lot of hovering until after at least 2 gallons of fuel. I did 6 gallons with lawn boy ashless and then switch to Amsoil 100:1. I spoke with Dave Johnson and he said for DA50 2 to 4 gallon is enough. He said if you want to be very conservative 4 gallons otherwise after 2 gallons you can switch to 100:1 Amsoil. I did 2 gallons on my second DA and then switched to 100:1 results were less carbon build up and still a good runing motor. Just want to let you know that 6 gallons for DA50 is over kill, do 4 at most. Also I've seen people going to 50:1 and then 80:1 before 100:1. I would straight go to 100:1. You'll lile that engine!

I am not running it hard or for long periods of time at all on the ground. I do need to make sure nothing is rubbing, chaffing,or vibrating itself lose though. I did all the running I am going to do, which wasnt even a tank. I am ready as soon as I get the tailwheel springs on, and a few nit picky things left.
