Default Re: CRRC Pro GF26I

After 4 toranados, 50-60 mph winds, rain, floods etc over the past 2 weeks the weather cleared to a bright 86 degrees with 2-5 mph winds this past Saturday

Engine: CRRCpro GF26I 26cc on 87 gasoline with 32:1 Penzoil Air cooled oil Prop used: Hawk 16X8 (looks like XOAR)
Airplane: Sea Gull Laser 200 wing span 69" Wing Area 735 sq in
All Up Weight: 9 Lbs 15.6 oz (no fuel)

Arrived at the field and proceded tostart up the GF26I as usual on my test stand. Turned on receiver, cracked throttle just above idle, choked the carb and flipped 9-10 times with ignition off. Opened choke, turned on ignition flipped 4-5 times and engined started up but would not rev up to full rpm even after a few minutes warm up. NOTE this is first time I attemped to run the engine with the cowl on. Since I didn't put any carb adjustment holes in the cowl yet , I had to remove the cowl to adjust the carb.

With the cowl off I again choked the carb and this time fliped 4-5 times with ignition off. Turned off choke, turned on ignition and fliped 2 or 3 times and it started right up and idled great. Advanced the throttle to wide open and engined reved up to high rpm.

Prefight checked all controls and taxied out. Took off and the engine died about 15 ft high. It sounded lean as it was starting to climb out.

Brought back and richend up the low end and the re peaked the high end. Took off again and this time engine ran good except for a little surge in low end. Flew out almost whole tank of fuel and landed . The engine had plenty of power. Vertical was good for my state of engine tune. Cruise was about 1/8 throttle. Plane handled very nice with this engine.

It appeas my optimum test stand tuning for the best idle and high end rpm left the carb on the lean side so much so that it would not run correctly when I installed the cowl. Then, my field retune was on the rich side and needs to be tweeked a little more leaner.

Sorry i didn't get any video. Just mangaged a couple snap shots. Next week end ( weather permitting as stroms are back today) I will fly again after retuning with the cowl on and switch to a XOAR 17X6 and get some video.

Regards - Trike

Awsome video Mattboy, I was hoping to get some video of the Laer & GF26I this past week end but if it wasn't raining the wind was blowing 20-35 mph so maybe this next week end will be clear.

Hey, TrikeFlyer

Did you do anything special to come up with a RTF weight of 10lbs ?
I have the same plane with a OS 1.60FX, three MG standard servos in the tail and a 6V 1650mah battery and I am at 11lb 5oz.
Oh, I also installed a 1/4 GP sport pilot, that looks great.

Three post in a row by me, but I am interested in this motor.

Anyone using the GF26I-SP CNC version.
CNC milled case, angled plug, different ignition, etc.

The new GF26I has a little more power than the GW26I. Both are very reliable. I believe western hobbies has both in stock.

hi guys...

yeah its been a long time since i posted in here. had a lot of things in life that take priority over the model stuff. yes i still have my engine...it is as i left it...that being with it needing another carb to cylinder adaptor. the old one is at work actually waiting for me to machine up a new one.....but as life tends to do...i havent gotten to doing it as yet.

will post again when i have the adaptor made.

Hey, great video as always Mattboy! You Calif guys get all the good weather.

After rain, floods, tornados, 6 mph winds we are finally getting nice flying weather.

My epert 3D pilot friend is due back from Italy this week end so maybe I can finally get some video of the Laser flying with the 26 engine for you guys.

well.....

my engine is STILL where i left it. that being still bolted to my test stand, without its intake manifold and carb. i just haven't had a chance to get to it and continue testing/tuning.

i no longer have an airframe in which to test fly this engine. it has been returned to its owner after spending considerable time on my bench getting new servos fitted/ new fuel tank etc etc.

this airframe was to be the test rig for this engine.

i haven't stepped off the planet....its more a case of other things in life getting in the way lol

cheers
