Will the 26gfi (or any gasser) chop off your fingers if it's over choked? update: Well, I'm well into my 2nd gallon, and so far, the engine ain't dead. My BCMA-SPE carb is workin' just fine, and I don't have the 1,000,000 flip / hard to start problem. I think my Showtime is a bit overweight, but that's prolly because I'm running a 4500 mAh NiMh.

After reading this forum I picked up one of these little 26cc motors from Ray at www.prcmodel.com He is a gentleman to deal with. And he stands behind these motors great. It will hover my 14.5 lb Telemaster on floats with a APC 17x6. It Idles at 1850 -1950 rpm after one tank of gas. It is VERY easy to hand start. I like it so much I just ordered another one from Ray for my Funtana 90 that has been sitting around for several years now, as I couldn't get myself to mess with glow stuff any more. If your on the fence about getting this motor, I feel it is a good motor at a great price.

| ![]() I have three of the 26i's and each one has really impressed me. They are great right out of the box. Everyone must keep in mind that no matter what it is, who makes it, or how well your intentions, there will be Murphy looking over your shoulder. I have not had any trouble out of my engines and I am going thru 3 gallons of gas, which make quite a few tank fulls. I did notice last night on my newest engine that I have developed a split on the thrust hub, I have seen one other instance and heard of two others who have experienced this. This may be something to keep an eye on!!! Otherwise I am truly satisfied with these engines. |

I have also heard from other guys whose engines have developed a split on the hub. At least one of them claims it came like that out of the box. Mine was fine when I bought it but after a few runs the split appeared and eventually became larger. I have since replaced the hub. Looking at the old one the crack starts inside right in the groove that lines up with the key. I heard it usually happens when the hub is forced in with the key slightly misaligned or if too much torque is applied when tightened.

Must be a really bad grade of aluminum...The ONLY reason for a keyway in the hub is to put the hub on the crank in the right place for timing when it is first assembled..It does not drive the hub The key is so soft that it will shear if the hub comes loose.....Most magneto flywheels are made from pot metal, they will split at the keyway when tightened too much...Maybe the hubs on these engines are made from castings and machined to look like bar stock.??

| The crankshaft and torque hub are machined for a tapered fit with the alighment key. However there is no stop point for the hub to rest against, it is continualy being pushed down on the crankshaft, and a hub out of good material shouldn't split. The prop shaft holds the hub on the crank, however when you install your prop you are pushing down even more. I agree the metal is either to soft or to brittle. I talked to Tom at Valley View and he is contacting the manufacture about the problem. Tightning the prop shaft is one thing, but when you tighten the prop nut that puts a lot more pressure on the hub and I like a good tight prop, would be nice to have a torque value to use when tightening. They need to address this problem, I am checking into having a friend who is a machinist make me one out of bar stock. But as long as its under warranty I will keep going back for more. I like the performance of these engines! |

I am not 100% sure but if it went I would not want to be close to it. I would think as well that with the hub split it would be out of balance and might cause some sort of damage to the bearings maybe.

You know, the prop flying off is a really good question, and a safety concern also. However the crankshaft is turning counter clockwise, the force on the prop, thrust, would push clockwise keeping the prop shaft in a tightning effort, however is you throttle down then the motor would slow and the prop would remove itself, not a very good picture. I will contact Tom (at Valley View) tomorrow and express my concerns. I can see one cure would be to make the shoulder on the thrust cone wider making it stronger, or better yet make them out of better material, this may be a really big problem with a really great running engine. I will post more after I talk to Tom and let you know what he can find out. Ed |
