I have a DA150 that at times will not start. It usually starts the first couple of times, then about the third time I try to start it, it wont start. I usually choke it until it pops, then remove the choke and start it after 3-4 flips. When it won't start, sometimes it pops when choked, sometimes it doesn't. The carb seems to have gas in it, at least when you remove the choke, you get gas all over you hand. When I check the plugs they don't appear wet however, so I'm thinking it is not flooded. I have been having this problem all spring. I have replaced the iginition, replaced the carb, replaced the fuel line, checked the inside of the tank, hard wired the ignition(removed the DA furnished connector on the ignition.) Over the winter I did install cans, installed a choke servo and replaced the fuel tank/fuel line. I have since removed the choke servo and replaced the fuel tubing again. I am not sure, but I think that it originally had large fuel line and used medium. Don't know if that could have anything to do with it. I am at a lost as what else to try...any suggestions??? Thanks |

Are you sure that when you open the choke, that the butterfly opens up all the way? Make sure it opens all the way... Just a suggestion..

That's why I took the choke servo off, I was never really sure it it was getting choked. Now I just flip the choke lever by hand. Of course, after today I have had the problem with two different carbs.

I dont know how old that engine is but is sounds like it could have slipped a hub and the timing is now off.I have seen this happen a number of times on engines that have never suffered a propstrike

When the idle is set too lean, the result is what you're getting. The engine is hard to start, when it does start you have to coax the throttle to get it to stay running. Set the low end a little richer and try again. If it floods when you're trying to start it, turn OFF the ignition, open the throttle full, flip the prop 8-10 times. close the throttle and try and start without the choke closed. You might have to re-choke the engine to get it to start.

My 100 is the same way. First time of the day must choke until it pops, turn off choke and flip 4 more times. After the 1 st flight to try and start it without the choke. Usually it starts on the 3rd flip. If not I choke it for 1 flip then turn it off, flip 4 more times and it fires. If I choke it until it pops every time I will be flipping it until my arm gets sore. One other thing to check. Make sure the piece of fuel tube coming from the pressure tap in back of the carb doesn't have a hole in it. Not sure on the 150 but on the 50 a hole doesn't help with starting any time.

Bill and AU, If the power source was the problem - I certainly hope that a regulated power source was recomended. This is very important(IMHO) and should not be over looked. Fromeco reg and a lion batt or something similar is always a good bet. Sorry for the shameless Fromeco plug there..couldnt help it... Ronster |

so it is not missed up it was a regulated power supply on his ignition,i am not here to argue with anyone about it so as far as i am concerned my 3w runs perfectly without a regulater so i have no problems, not directed at you ronster
