Default Neoprene or Tygon for Gas Tank

Can someone suggest which one will be used for tube inside the gas tank in the airplane? As far as I know there are two types of gas tube for gas engine. One is Tygon (DUBRO) yellow color and another one is Neoprene (black color).

I observed that Neoprene is more flexible than Tygon so I am thinking that Neoprene tube should be used for the gas supply tube inside the gas tank (Dubro for example), but while I am seeing several people in here used Tygon instead as shown in attached picture.

I used to use Tygon for gas supply in the gas tank (Dubro) and after several months when I recheck my gas tank for cleaning and leakaging I found out that Tygon will change a bit as it become more harder than new one (less flexible). While I also tested for Neoprene and found out that after several months used there is no change in flexibility of the Neoprene tube.

Please give me your thoughts why several people here I saw they used Tygon in the gas tank for Gas engine airplane..

Thank you.wh-edge_56.jpg

Neoprene can be used for high temp area such as when connecting to muffer for smoke oil..

I don't like the neoprene.... I like to see what's going on with the fuel and bubbles, air leaks etc. Tygon for me...

I started using K&S STA-FLEX fuel line it is clear and very flexible for the inside of my tank. It is gasoline safe and is very inexpensive at about 9 bucks for 25 feet on a roll from Tower Hobbies. They don't say what it is made of I am thinking it is neoprene. I was thinking the same thing about the Tygon fuel line and on smaller gassers you want that tank line to be as flexible as possible for the smaller tanks. I am sure there are many guys who use Tygon in the tank without problems I just didn't trust it. Has anyone else used the STA-FLEX that can chime in? It seems like the ticket to me.

Tygon for Gas tank plumbing and Neoprene for smoke where it connects to the mufflers

I've been using Aerotrend and have had great success with it: http://www.aerotrend.com/shop_subcat.php?subcat=4

Thank you for good information,. Seems to have different ideas and preferable use. I take a look STA-FLEX and it mentioned that it is very flexible. Good that it can be used for both glow and gas and it is clear.

May try to use one...

Again, thank you for great information.

I still keep Neoprene from smoke tank to muffer as so far I didn't see any problem. But for Tygon I saw that it becomes harder and not flexible.

I have found the K&S tubing will get hard and the Tygon will stay flexible. The Tygon is most flexible when exposed to gas. I use Tygon for the pickup line inside the tank.

Luis Tiago, a pilot from Brazil that wons very prizes (including the IMAC Brazil twice) recomends that you maintain gasoline in the tank. Instead of empty the tank after the day you fill up it.
The contact with the air harden the tubes.
It's the same thing when you put gasoline on the floor, it will evaporate because it's contact with the air, in the tubes, along the time, this procedure will make they less flexible.

PS: Sorry for my poor english

One of the most persistant myths perpetuated by the internet is about gassers needing large diameter Tygon...These aren't glow engines and don't need large fuel line...
Hayes Products molded neoprene is the best for ANY gasser application...
It will not slip off any part of the fuel system, no barbs or tie wraps needed...
It will not deteriorate immersed in gasoline for a VERY long time, while remaining flexible...
It will not burn off the smoke connection at the muffler...
The small diameter Hayes is more than large enough to be used on ANY size gasser...
You can't see through it, the only disadvantage...
If you haven't tried it, don't help perpetuate the myth, try it and see for yourself....
Tower sells it...

So, does the tank have to be drained after a day's worth of flight? Will the gasoline really preserve the Tygon?

Don't know about preservation, my test stand fuel tank is full all the time, the neoprene hangs in it 24-7...Can't remember when it was changed last....
The Tygon normally used gets stiff in gas and slips off....that's why tie wraps are used with Tygon...No tie wraps necessary with Hayes seamless neoprene...Other brands split, not Hayes....
