Ok... let me start by saying... I'm a newbie to gas... as a matter of fact I just flew my first gasser this past weekend (got 5 flights on it and loving it!) all my other experience is glow. That being said, I have the 3MM53TOC on my plane and (keep in mind this is my only gas engine) so far for the money I'm pretty happy. It's turning a 22x8 bunny prop at 7200rpm with only about one gallon of 32:1 through it. I think from what I've been reading that it's performing pretty good. My plane weighs about 17lb5oz and I've got pretty good verticle performance. My only complaint... which could be a result of the carb still a bit on the rich side... I'm getting a slight misting of fuel (blow by) on the fire wall (which is fuel proofed so not a big deal) I'm going to try a velocity stack which I'm told will probably fix the issue but if not for my first gas engine and plane I think for the $$ I'm happy. Something else I've been told from some local flyers and also online... I guess a little blow by / mist isn't all that uncommon...??? Also... the mist that was there after 5 flights of 8 to 10 minutes per flight was very very thin. Don't know if this helps you at all being my limited gas experience... but there you go. Oh yea... idle is very smooth at about 1400 and transition is nice and snappy. If you want to see it in action on my plane... go to my thread and you'll see a video that I posted on post #35.Ordered my first gasser! |

I own 3 of the DL 50's, one of each of the updates. All 3 run very good. I have them on a 13 pound GP Cap and it is insane power with a 22x8 Mejzlik, the 2nd. is on a GP PW Extra at 16 pounds and with a Vess 23A the power is perfect for IMAC flying ( the PW is not much of a 3D'er) and the newest with the new mounts and bigger crankcase is on a GP Yak at 13.4 pounds with a Mejzlik 23x8. I have not had a single deadstick. They have ran and continue to run wonderfully. I would not hesitate for a split second to buy another, nor would I at this point consider any other 50cc engine simply due to how great Bob has been to deal with and how good these motors have been to me. The oldest now has 10 gallons through it and is running on Redline 40:1 spinning 7400 on a 22x8. The newest is on Lawnboy 32:1 spinning a 23x8 at 6900 with just under 2 gallons. I have also heard great things about the 3M so, I guess you couldn't go wrong when both are so close in cost and performance.

ok thanks guys twister you say there are 3 versions? is this correct. of the dl50. i saw the pic of the newest which had bigger mounting lugs. and who is bob? and how do i get intouch with him. i like the rear mounted carb the best. i think it will fit in places the side mount wont. all be it you need longer standoffs. so there is a trade off.

Yes, the 1st version was identical to the 2nd except an updated ignition module (stamped 2.0) and the square motor mounts were machined better. The 3rd. now uses typical 3" stand offs and has much beefier mounting lugs. Bob is who is you come in contact with when you order from DLUSA.net. He is extremely patient and also returns phone calls promptly. I am not positive, but I believe he is the owner of DLUSA.net. Don't fear the 3" stand offs, most planes designed for 50cc require them for proper prop to firewall length. I have yet to build a plane that required shorter stand off's on 50cc. The length ends up being about 6 3/4" all together I believe.

Everything for a Da 50R pretty much works for the DL, including prop bolts, exhaust and carbs, ignitions etc... Makes buying different exhaust like cannisters and pipes a breeze

That's what I did when I bought my 1st. I compared it to my DA-50R that was in my PW first. I had to pull the DA to send it in for repair, twice in 4 months. The DL ran better, stronger on the same prop in the same plane. I hope you have the same great experience. There's a big differnece between those two yaks, but they both fly awesome!
