Hey guys, hoping some one can shed some light on this problem Picked up a used 3w 106 iB2 - actually looks like it has never been run, but can't be certain. Set the engine up on my plane, but after about 50 flips the engine does not appear to be drawing fuel through the line. I kept my eye on a bubble as I flipped it a couple of times and while the bubble moves forward and back, it does not make any progress towards the fuel inlet. I can pump fuel freely through the line, so it does not appear to be blockage. Any thoughts? Russell |

You need to get your carb wet. They don't pump until that happens, so try drawing some fuel into a length of fuel tubeing, say 12 to 16 inches long, then block the end (something along the line of a fuel-line plug works best, but a machine screw with a tight fit could suffice). Connect the line to your carb fuel inlet, with gravity working with you, instead of against you. WITH YOUR IGNITION TURNED OFF or disconnected (so your engine doesn't start up) close the choke, open the throttle about half or so, and start to flip to get the fuel inside the carb. Then re-connect your regular fuel line, preferably with fuel already in it, tie it to the fuel inlet (I like to use wire-ties) and try to start again - that should do it for you.

Hi, if your engine has been sitting for sometime the diaphram can stick and not work right. Has happened to me with a 3W-120, it was not used for a while and would not run with choke off, would only run after choking and then quit. I replaced the diaphram and all was good. Might be your problem and worth checking. Dave. |

3Ws for years had problems with the carb insulator block..The mounting bolts are too far apart and if tightened excessivelythe block will warp in the center and leak...The older phenolic blocks were the worst...There's a flat neoprene gasket between the carb block and reed plate under the carb, not exactly the best thing for sealing a flat plate....2 more small bolts would have been good.... Check the reeds, leaky reeds mean no pulse to the carb.... They fray at the ends, crankcase pressure leaks back through the carb....

I tend to lean on flyinhighs theory I think you need to get the carb wet then try to fire it up. If it has been sitting for a while that could happen. You may also want to try and check your carb before you try to start it up and make sure everything is clean.
