That's correct - I'll try get a temp on that area today flying (i.e. that end of the pipe) and the rudder servo. So far no issues... I do have about 3/8" from the covering to the servo and about 3/8" from the pipe to the covering - really about 3/4" from pipe to servo with good airflow.. I have some leftover heat shield to put there if necessary... How's your install coming along? The KS1090 is a huge and it quickly gets tight with it in there...

I started to tune the engine a bit and leaned it a little bit on the high and haven't touched the low - tached the 27x10th at 6650 on a warm motor. I richened it a touch to 6580 as I'll start on the low end next time out. Transition is beautiful so far and not feeling peaky at all. Most flights are under 1/2 throttle and WOT is ballistic. Shaun - you'll be pleasantly surprised once you get it going!!

Nice! Did you use the DA header gasket or did you use any RTV / high temp silicone instead ? Did you use any lock washers on the header bolts? Just don't want my header to come loose from the motor.

I started with Copper High Temp RTV but my gasket failed and I ended up going to some high temp gasket material (like DA sends with it's motors). With the header bolts I used some locktite but not sure how effective it really is when it's hot.. I did retighten the header bolts when the all was warm with the cowl off and no issues. Here's a vid on my third tank - nothing special, but tons of power... The Lawnboy Ashless sure has been smokey for me - you'll see the trail in the vid.. Winds at 10-15mph but you'll get a feel for how loud it is...

No mix on it - you are talking about a change in the throttle curve - right? Just a linear throttle. We were talking about that yesterday at the field and I need to throw a tach on it and look at stick position vs. rpm and fly a few times... Throttle linkage geometry is spot on for great resolution so it "feels" great right now...

henna what do you think about building a tunnel to shield inside of plane from heat. was thinking of putting a 85 in a carden 330 with a pipe if i can get it light enough, all thought my da100 turns a menz 27/ 10 at6600, so the 85 would most likely be good

Henna - if you like the way it feels leve it alone ![]() I prefer a curve though to soften up the throttle around hover. Anychance of posting some pics of your throttle and choke setup? Also, did you use the long or short choke arm? Long arm is adjustable but has that huge hole in it. Nice Video!

Knifelander - I've had had 3 planes with cans now and each one has had a tunnel. On the 35% Extra - I had to build one up and dice up some formers in the process. So far - really happy with it and it's keeping heat out of the fuse and also focusing cooling air along the pipe. Shaun - I have just over a gallon on the motor so haven't had time to really dial in the throttle curve (or it hasn't been the priority yet). I'll end up doing it for the reasons you mentioned - it seems that a linear throttle curve doesn't always match the RPM's and from 1/2 throttle and below the PRM change per click is much more significant than above 1/2 throttle. I used the smaller arm (on the throttle linkage side) and here are some pics. I have some screws holding both servo mounts to the motor box so they don't vibrate off...

Another thing - the 85 spits quite a bit back out of the carb so you may look at a way of blocking it so the inside of the fuse isn't covered in fuel... I got it all the way back to my tank. If you don't have the hole in the motor box like I do - it's a non issue...
