O.k., after reading this thread it sounds like the low to mid range is good with the pipe. No my decision is do I need the pipe or not. I am building a Jtec 2.7M Extra. One of the planes built with a DA 100 and canisters and smoke came in at 25.5 lbs. I figure if I do a DA 85 with a pipe it should be at 24 lbs. or less. With a wrap around pitts it should be in the 23 lb. range. Either way it will be a power house. I did have a different plane setup with a wrap around pitts and it was extremely loud. So the question is, is it worth the trouble of installing and flying with a tuned pipe? Or should I just stick with the wrap around pitts with such a light airframe?

Here is a Pacific Planes 102 incher at 23lb and small change. Less than a gallon on a gurgling DA-85. Wrap around pitts and Vess 26A at 6700. To me flying a piped setup is different and takes getting use to when 3D'ing. Not bad, just different feel. |

On my 23 pound 10 oz 33% extra 300 with 32 oz of fuel the da85 and a 27x10th pulls the crap out of it. IMO power wise the pitts is best for a plane ~24 pounds or less. The 25 pound area is a gray area of pitts and pipe but then higher is a pipe for sure.

I had the 85 in a 102" Extra that was 23 lbs. and it was crazy power. It had a wrap around pitts as well. The only thing I was thinking was since I need to buy a new system would it be better to get the pipe anyway. I thought that it may quiet things down a bit also. It does sound like the wrap around would be a much easier setup though.

Hey DB. Mack's is right in Sac. You can take your plane in and he will build you a header on the spot thats a perfect fit. Then you can get any pipe/tuned pipe you want. Personaly my opinion is the Bud Bottle mufflers are as good or better than any pipe/cann available. While in Sac. a visit to RC Country is a must, and they are about 2 miles from Mack's.

Alt, How would I get in touch with Mack? I did see the thread on the bud bottle cans. However, I figured they may be on the small side for an 85cc engine?? |

for those that are using the KS 95 pipe, has anyone tried a header longer then stock? Should this help the pipe from coming on so hard at 1/4 throttle?

My DA85/KS1090/25mm double bend flex header/ is very different than my friends ZDZ80RVJ/AMT105. Mine is strong throughout the range and at each throttle click while his comes on pipe noticeably which makes 3Ding his harder All I have ever done to mine is install the stock setup from DA and lean my low needle to 1 turn on the first run. Nothing since then and crazy power. DB - the pipe setup is quiet except for prop ripping! If noise is a consideration, extra $200 for the pipe setup is not and issue, and you want power for a bigger, heavier bird in the future go KS1090 pipe1 If not then at 24lbs your setup would have plenty power on stock muff. All I know is my 26lb setup accelerates like crazy on uplines. My wife took a few short clips this weekend. I'm swamped with work till about 10 each night, but will try post a couple clips over the next few nights. First static, then in air. Sorry about the delay!

Ok so my laptop crashed twice uploading the video, so I have to post tomorrow. Will try post a short flight video too showing a little 3D and climbout. DB - will give you a good idea of sound too.

| Throttle response! Mej 28x10. 13 flights old. One of my last flights was 22mins on a 32oz tank and I still had 15% left!

I'm running a 32 oz tank also and I already have had a dead stick to running out of gas. I guess I just love to fly long flights lol and should set a timer for 20 min.
