Sweet - I'll be out flying mine tomorrow am. It's been a few weeks of working weekends so no flying - vid was a nice primer for tomorrow... Lets see some flight vids now

I have been flying an 85 in a 27.5 lb. Ultimate with a wrap around pitts and the power is good. I had a DR Hobbies Extra at 23 lbs. and the power was great. I know I will have plenty of power with the Jtec 300 but my big concern is noise at this point. All of the wrap around pitts mufflers are very loud. I do not have a noise restriction at my field but the President told me I needed to do something to quiet the Ultimate down. I need to buy a new 85 and a new muffler setup so I am figuring instead of dropping $150 for a pitts and upgrading later. It may be better to spend a little more and have a setup I can use in any 35% airframe. My only reel concern is the low and mid range with the pipe but it sounds like that is good.

No need to be worried at all. I have experienced absolutely no 'coming on pipe' issues at all. Otherwise it would be a pain to 3D. I hate throttle lag and then ramping up so trust me you're safe going with this setup. Low idle is super reliable and anything under 1/3 is rediculously quiet. My one issue is the setup rips the 28x10 over 2/3 throttle

I would also be hesitant like you after seeing the issues my friend has on his ZDZ 80RVJ/AMT105 getting it dialed in. Luckily I had this setup running before seeing his or I may been scared away from trying this.

Also I noticed it is hard to see the throttle stick for throttle response, so on the youtube website be sure to click on 'high quality version' just below and to the right of the video to see this better.

Do it. Do it

I'll post a video late tonight.

I'm with Shaun (Sprice50) in his post above. The pipe does not feel "peaky" and has good low/mid torque. I've run a 27x10th and the throttle response was immediate but ripped like crazy. The Mej 28x10 is a bit quieter up until you hit 2/3 throttle. Response is a tad slower but the noise reduction is better and it's just like Shaun's vid. Doing 3D is not an issue at all and throttle feels pretty linear.

Tuning was not an issue - bolted mine up and it's not needed any tweaking yet...

Thank you for the feedback. I must say it all sounds way to good to pass up. I will be getting the plane tomorrow so I will see how it will be to get the pipe in the plane. I think it should not be much of a problem. From the sound of it, the plane will have rediculous power

Jason,
Where do you fly? I see you are in Sunnyvale. Maybe I could come and see you fly yours to see how it is?

Your thoughts on using the pipe in the smaller plane just so you dont have to rebuy a muffler system on the next large plane sounds good. I wouldn't fault any one for going that route.

I think that thought is just making me feel better about spending another $200 The funny thing is, at 2000 sq. in. of wing area and a wing span of 104" the Jtec is really not small. They took alot of weight out of the new version so it should be a good setup. My main reason is the lower noise and I really like the idea of moving the exit to the back of the plane instead of in the engine box. The extra power isn't really needed but a welcome plus

I have been looking at it for over a year now. I really like the scheme and from what I have heard it flys very good. Al and Kevin just set one up with an 85 and took off with it to the Nall before they flew it. I will talk to them on Monday to see how it is with the wrap around pitts. I believe their expected weight was around 23 lbs.

There needs to be some video taken of the plane and a 85.
