The 170 thread said that one of the guys had great performance on the RE3 type so that is my best guess.... but only a guess. DA 170 -any info?

KS1090 was around 6650 rpm! Seriously, I don't think finding another pipe is the real issue here. The power is insane on any pipe!

I agree that the power is more than enough but more is always better. My primary interest is an extremly linear response. Especially at mid throttle while hovering.

That is why I always take it with a pinch of salt when people say they hover at 1/3 throttle. this is usually because at 1/2 throttle their carb is half open and at 75% power ![]() Even with my expo and carb settings I have unlimited vertical at 75% throttle. If I advance the throttle it still has noticeable acceleration and is really powerful. The other thing to consider is noise. At these types of RPM prop noise can become an issue. I have even considered trying a 29x10" to get the RPM around 6300. The MTW pipe you were discussing is the RE3 RE 3 830 mm 28 mm 15 mm 60 mm ca. 350 g For comparison, the KS1090 Aluminium-tuned-pipe up to 125 ccm with bent outlet 75° article-nr1090-4 B motor sizeup to 125 ccm Lg750mm øde30mm øda18mm øD75mm Gewicht410g So it appears the RE 3 is about 3 inches longer, and 2 oz lighter. Likely a little more fragile. Not sure what the greeves specs are. If anyone knows please add them.

| Very interesting dimensional comparison. Just looking at the length, the MTW is longer and I would inherently think that it would be better with a bigger prop running at a lower RPM. I look forward to when someone can provide data while using the MTW pipe. |

GP - I don't think you can make comparisons based on length alone. There are so many factors e.g. pipe volume, reasonance, header length. If you can find a drop in pipe combo that isn't a pain to tune (like the 1090) I say go with it. Mostly has to do with having enough volume, which the KS and MTW have. Be different, buy the MTW and let us know.

Well... I was breaking in a new DA85 / JTEC pitts muffler on a 35% Carden Edge 540.... at 25 lbs, it had good pull-out of a hover, but nothing spectacular.... I also kept having issues with the pitts muffler coming loose and welds letting go. So.... I decided to go back to the trusty KS1090 pipe and shoe-horned it into the Edge. To balance I also moved the A123 batteries right to the front and added 6 oz of lead to the motor box. Again, break in continued on a 28x10 Mej at 6600rpm, but the acceleration now from a hover (even with the added weight) is absolutely spectacular.... even better than a rocket ship!! After many, many gallons of fuel on multiple DA85 / KS1090 / Mej 28x10, I think this is one of the best set-ups around.... reliable and insanely powerful!!! |

What headers are you using with DA-85/KS-1090. I can't find the header info anywhere. Thanks J-F
