Depends on what you are putting it in. If it is a true 50cc class plane, like the AM, Aeroworks, or QQ Yaks at around 85", then I can practically guarantee you that the BME 55 will NOT work, simply for CG reasons. If you are looking to stuff a gasser in a 1.60 sized glow plane like the H9 260, Patty Wagstaff, or any of the latest offerings from sport plane manufactures like Great planes and Carl goldberg, then the 55 is exactly what they have been waiting for. Up until now, they have all been coming out heavy with anything more than a 1.60-2.1 glow engine. with the new BME 55, you will be at the same weight or less, with way more power, and cheaper fuel than with an OS 1.60.

There must still be a way to get the cg back on line. It seems like a waste not to be able to utilize the lighter motor for a wing loading advantage

The only possible way would be to move the elevator servos up front and use a heavy duty push-pull setup.

I go with Bennies suggestion. Move the wing to get your C of G right. I doubt it will take much if you put all your electronics for the engine etc as far forward as possible. The aim is always to get it as light as possible so by using the wing location to get your C of G bang on means you dont carry any parasitic weight, and you better beleive light planes fly nicer. As for the BME 55 reliability. Well the 110 is a gem so half of one should not be any different. Kiwi |

if you are happy with the performance of the 55 get it look at it this way even if you have to add weight to balance god forbid. Later you still have the lite engine and can use it on the next plane if you buy the heavyer engine you wont be able to liten it later. if you think the da 50 will out perform the bme 55 then def get the da if you dont want dead weight put a smoke system in they weigh ~pound how cool is that a smoke system with no weight penalty . |

It turns out that a guy in my club has a da still in the box. I guess I'll do him a favor and buy it. I am getting an h9 extra 260 on Thursday. So when putting glow fuel in my moki 2.1 finally pisses me off enough I'll have a reason for the bme

I have my name on the reserved list for a rear induction version. It will be going on a scratch built pattern/ 3D plane which currently sports an OS 160fx. It currently has just a little better than 1:1 power to weight ratio, the BME 55 will be perfect for my application. The OS is turning an APC 18x6W at 8200 RPM, the BME will turn a Menz 24x8 at 6500, I can't wait any longer. The plane described is used in my avitar, 14.5 #s with 1404" of wing. <------------ |
