She starts just fine but untill she's warmed up I cant get above high idle. I try to throttle up a bit and she dies. ![]() I thought it was - Low end lean - but I've cranked that needle out untill now shes burbling in mid range pretty badly when flying. And still not able to run her up when cold. I guess I can deal with it and just keep warming it up more at high idle before i fly. But if there is a easy soulition lets hear it. |

If this is a brand new engine... I would leave it as it is for a few more tanks.. it will get better. Is it difficult to start the first time of the day?

More history would help - specifically, how much fuel. Big difference in theories and suggestions if this is a brand new engine or one with 20 gallons through it.

I had the exact same problem. Background... The engine was well run in and performing near perfectly. I changed from mineral to synthetic as recommended. Engine continued OK for maybe 30 flights then the same symptoms as you reported. Thinking it was too rich I dicked around with the settings which seemed to make matters worse. I went to the DA rep here in Aus who set the needles back to bog standard and the engine ran perfectly. I felt like a complete burke (Aus for idiot) as I had noted the original needle settings and was adamant I had returned them to the original after each attempt at experimenting. Stay with me here........... Life continues, but about 40 or so flights later the same problem re-occurred. Once again I dicked around with the settings and the situation worsened. I changed the plug and fuel lines and checked the clunk...yada yada...considered beating my wife. In desperation I wound both needles closed in order to recheck that they were set to the DA50 manual settings of 1+5/8 and 1+7/8. They were. I started the engine nevertheless and throttled up.....strewth...it ran and transitioned perfectly!!! Just like it did after the rep did the same....he closed and reset the needles. Why? Well it is known that stuff can grow in fuel....fungus etc. Maybe winding the needles in and out clears any growth or other debris that may be there. Smarter people in the fuel industry might answer that one. Me, I don't give a rat's....it worked. Try it, she cried ! |

Try choking every start. My old 50 needed choke every time otherwise it would die when you tried to throttle up. After the first start of the day it would pop on the first flip then choke off at 1 or 2 flips it would run sweet as. Not sure why it did it but it worked for me.
