Default New Muffler for DA 50

TROY BUILT MODELS has a new pits style muffler for the DA50. The muffler has an internal bsffle to reduce noise and weighs 8.8 ozs. Has anyone tried one of these, any thoughts on this new muffler?

apples to oranges, but i tried the bison pitts muffler and it killed the power on my da 50 Harsh. a drop of 700 rpm. mind you i didnt spend the time tuning for the different muff, as soon as i seen the # on the tach i ripped it off a there, been on a shelf ever since. it was quieter though lol. stocker for me

The Bisson Mufflers are known for dropping RPM - this is caused by some extra back pressure from the knurl* in the exhaust pipe. The easy fix is to cut off 1/4" of the pipe and your RPM will return to normal.

If you already have the muffler sitting on a shelf collecting dust you have nothing to loose by trimming the pipes - give it a shot and see what happens!

*Knurl is caused (I think) by the way they cut the pipe off - a sort of pipe cutter that compresses the metal inwards and restricts the flow of exhaust.

They (Bisson) put it there because they say it reduces noise, and in a face to face conversation with the owner will not hear anything said against it and implied I was a ill informed and inexperienced by suggesting it be cut off!!!

Cut it off!!! It improves it.
